Bat Orphans

01:31
Trish Wimberley looks after hundreds of orphaned baby bats and rears them until they can be released into the wild. It's a tireless, never ending job which keeps her awake all hours (she apparently went 3 nights without sleeping once). A typical day may include feeding (the food is about $1000 a week), health checks, doing their laundry (the dryer and washing machine electricity bill costs up to $8000 every 3 or 4 months!), bat transportation for release -- everything they need in order to survive. You'd think she'd need an army of people to help but she makes do with only a few loyal volunteers. It just goes to show, motherhood can transcend between all species and Trish is happy playing that role to assist a creature that is vital to the Australian ecosystem. This video only shows a small section of the hospital. As the bats get ready to return to the wild they are moved to soft release exhibits. For more info on Trish & the work of the Australian bat clinic & wildlife trauma centre go here: http://australianbatclinic.com.au/ or like them on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/pages/Australian-Bat-Clinic-Wildlife-Trauma-Centre/242483795809816?ref=ts&fref=ts or perhaps email [email protected] If you're a member of the public, remember never to touch or approach a bat unless you are a registered carer/rescuer and you are vaccinated. Wild bats do not like to be approached as they may see you as a potential predator. Music: 'Happiness Forever' Composed by 'pinkzebra' Created by: Adam Cox

Blossom the Bat

02:12
Blossom is a rare species of Australian bat who recently came into care following a suspected cat attack. During her time with bat carer Louise Saunders from Bat Conservation & Rescue Qld, little Blossom recovered and was eventually released back into the wild. Blossom was still a baby when she came into care and was fed a nectar mix recipe and the occasional milk formula which is fed to other baby flying foxes. Over time she gradually gained weight and began to practice flying during the night. Often Blossom would dart in and out of rooms and even hover above Louise as she slept before retiring to her little brown bag at dawn. In over 18 years of bat rescues, Louise has never come across a Blossom bat. They are the smallest flying fox in the world and lead very secret lives. When asked about Blossom, Louise stated: 'It was the best bat experience of my life without a doubt and the decision to release her was a terrible one for me, but it was the right decision for Blossom. With banana, banksia, melaleuca and eucalypt flowers, and a whole new family to catch up with I'm sure she won't be missing me like I miss her.' Blossom bats are nectar specialists which feed and groom themselves with the aid of their long tongues. Blossom bats are known to hover in front of flowers as they forage and are important pollinators of many rainforest plants. Blossom bats are currently under threat due to loss of feeding and roosting habitat from clearing of forests for agriculture and housing estates Blossom was released on Macleay Island in Qld, Australia. Pablo the Food Critic Pug is is back for seconds! Which food will be celebrated and which will be shunned by his killer food critique? TLDR: We showed Pablo a few different food items to see what he likes/dislikes. That really wasn't much of an abbreviation from the original now that I think about it. Note: Some foods can be toxic for dogs if ingested. Food Critic Pug

Pablo the Pug is a professional food critic who travels the world testing his sensitive palate at the most prestigious restaurants across the globe. NOTE: Do NOT feed your pet strange foods as some types can be toxic for dogs. Pablo is a trained professional and has a cast iron stomach. He could eat Chuck norris. A lot of people seem concerned with his awesome collar. Be not alarmed Pug lovers, he is walked with a harness. And no, he does not eat chocolate. He is above that. (Seriously though, I know about the chocolate thing. He licks a wrapper, he's not at risk) Filmed with a Canon 5D Mark ii. 10,000+ likes! Thank you! Honey & Kwanza - Dog & Lion Best Friends

01:53
'Best in HD' Honey the dog and Kwanza the white lion cub are the best of friends. Kwanza's mother was originally rearing him until she stopped producing milk, which led him to being hand raised by the owners at Darling Downs Zoo. During this period he has developed a special bond with the zoo dog 'Honey' as they spend time exploring, wrestling and otherwise playing together. Kwanza was born on the 12th of November 2012 at a respectable 1600 grams. Now at around 4 months of age and he is a very robust and energetic young lion. The white lion is not a separate species of lion nor is it an albino. They have visible pigment in their eyes, paw pads and lips. The males grow pale manes and tail tips. The white colour is the result of a recessive gene, called a chinchilla gene, which is a colour inhibitor. This can result in "white" lions being blonde, near white or even red! White lions are described as being leucistic rather than albinistic. No white lions have been seen in the wild since 1994. Update: July 16th 2013 See a more recent image of Kwanza here! https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=623632047671691&set=a.111522498882651.8853.111501345551433&type=1&theater For more info on Kwanza: http://www.darlingdownszoo.com.au Darling Downs Zoo is based in Pilton, Queensland. Sound: Rachael Wasiak Music: 'African Fields' by Vizion-Studios - Audiojungle.net Created by Adam Cox (Creatura Channel) A lot of questions about the future of these two once Kwanza becomes a big lion. Although they are great pals, the situation is temporary as Kwanza will need to work on his lion friendships too ;) Honey will be okay, she is adored by the zoo owners. - Adam

Tasmanian Devil Joeys

01:22
'These cheeky devils are joeys from 'Devil Ark' which is the largest conservation breeding program for the Tasmanian devil on mainland Australia. The iconic Tasmanian marsupial is at serious risk of extinction from the highly contagious devil facial tumour disease (DFTD). Devil Ark's ambitious breeding program might be the key to its survival. Located at an altitude of 1,350 metres in the Barrington Tops, Devil Ark provides the perfect breeding environment for devils. The Tasmanian-like vegetation and cool, wet and snowy conditions means the devils feel right at home! But it is a battle against time! Genetic diversity is rapidly diminishing in Tasmania, so at Devil Ark, they are racing to breed large numbers of devils to preserve the species. There are currently more than 120 devils at the Ark and the goal is to have 360 devils at Devil Ark by 2016. Devil Ark relies on community support and donations to give hope to the Tasmanian devil. Right now, Devil Ark urgently needs to feed and house its next generation of babies.' -- Devil Ark For more behind the scenes activity from devil ark please visit their YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/tassiedevilark The guys who work there are great aussie blokes! Lion Cub Kwanza Loves His Ball Of Yarn

01:28
Do all cats love to play with a ball of yarn? Yes. Yes they do. Kwanza is a rare white lion cub who is being raised at Darling Downs Zoo in Pilton, Qld. After his mother stopped producing milk, it was decided he would be hand raised. During this period he has developed a friendship with Honey the zoo dog seen in this clip. An original video of the pair playing has been viewed over 1 million times and can be seen here: http://full.sc/10jrbCa We decided to give Kwanza a 'lion sized' ball of twine to see how he would react. Instead we reacted, with 'Naaaaaaw.'
