English Travel Vocabulary: Planning a Trip
http://www.engvid.com Are you going to travel? Make sure you're prepared with the vocabulary you will need for your business trip or vacation. In this lesson, I'll teach you the English vocabulary you must know for travel -- from preparing your travel itinerary and making reservations, to getting your visas and boarding your flight. It is essential that you know this basic English travel vocabulary, because English is an international language. ESL students who are studying abroad will find these words very helpful. Even if you are not travelling to an English-speaking country, as a tourist, you will need to communicate with people at the airport, and at tourist attractions. Watch this lesson, take the quiz, and have a safe trip! http://www.engvid.com/english-travel-vocabulary-planning-a-trip/ TRANSCRIPT Hi. Welcome again to www.engvid.com. My name is Adam. Today, I'm talking about a very interesting topic because, for example, in Toronto right now, it's very, very cold. I'm thinking about travelling; I would love to go somewhere hot to get away from this winter. So, when I travel, I have, of course, to make travel arrangements. So here, we have a list of words, a list of things that you must think about before you go on a trip to a different country. We're going to go over each of these. We're going to start with "booking" and "reservation". Now, many people think that this is more or less the same, which it is. To book something or to reserve something means to keep a place, to keep your place. You book a flight, you book a hotel room. Generally speaking, you make a reservation at a restaurant; you make a booking with a travel agency or with a hotel, with accommodations, any type of accommodation. Speaking of, accommodations are hotel, motel, hostel, B&B, bed and breakfast; all kinds of accommodations. Make sure you have a booking before you go, so your place is safe, it's kept for you. When you arrive, it's all good. Next, when you're at your destination, the place you're going to, you might want to "rent" a car. Okay? Sorry, this is accommodation. One thing I wanted to also make sure - "accommodations", without the "s", "accommodation" means something different. Okay? "Accommodations" is where you're going to sleep. And you might want to "rent" a car. You can also "hire" a car. Means the same thing. British people generally use "hire" more, North Americans use "rent" more often. Next, you have to think about your "baggage". Suitcase, luggage, bags, anything you're carrying with you. You might have "check-in baggage". Sorry, I don't know if you can see this guy. "Check-in baggage" and "carry-on baggage". "Check-in baggage" means you give it to the airline, they put it under the plane, you pick it up at your destination. "Carry-on" means you carry on, so you carry it on your shoulder on to the plane. Okay? In your carry-on, you have to be careful, it has to be small. You can't have liquids because of security and all that stuff. So things that you can't put in your carry-on, you must put in your check-in baggage and give to the airline. Next, when you get to the airport, assuming you're flying, you will have to do a few things that concern the word "boarding". Before you board your plane, get on your plane - you will get a boarding pass that lets you pass through security and into the airport. On the boarding pass, you will see your "boarding time", this is when you get on the plane and your "boarding gate", the place in the airport where you're going to get on your plane before takeoff. Okay? We can also use this for a train. You board a train, you get a boarding pass with a boarding time, and generally a boarding platform. Okay? So "boarding", getting on your vehicle, whatever vehicle that might be. You will also generally need to get a "visa" to many countries. Now, a "visa" is something that you use to get into a country, it gives you permission to stay in that country. But be aware: many places, if you're going through another country... So, for example: I'm going to country "C" via country "B". "Via" means by way of or through. So I might need a "transit visa", means I can go there, switch planes and keep going on my journey. But I'm still in another country, I need a transit visa. Excuse me. Also, make sure you're prepared to spend money as soon as you get to your destination. If you're going to a different country, that country will but using a different "currency", type of money. In Canada, we have Canadian dollar. America has American dollar. Okay? For things like that. In Europe, you need the euro. So make sure you have some of the currency before you go, or purchase it at the airport or at the destination you're going to.
TRIP REPORT - FINNAIR 666 Economy Class Flight on an Airbus A319 flight
AIRLINE TRIP REPORT ►Watch more of our Airline Trip Reports here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5vnB59Zi3AI&list=PLFZOg4H3C0gGcY8HOUkh-fWwELBYuWXn2 Finnair Flight AY666 to Helsinki (HEL) from Copenhagen Denmark, hence the title (HeHe)! This is a short Finnair flight review (tripreport) of Finnair flight AY666 from Copenhagen Airport (CPH) to Helsinki Airport, Helsinki Vantaa (HEL). This is onboard (cabin view video footage of the flight seen from the perspective of a passenger flying in Finnair´s Economy Class and includes the takeoff from Copenhagen Airport and also the landing at a very wet and grey Helsinki Vantaa Airport! This onboard cabin view flight footage begins in Copenhagen in the Gate A Area of the airport. Our Finnair flight AY666 an Airbus A319 (Airbus A319-112 ) departs from Gate A17. We view the Gate lounge area until the screen shows that the flight is ready for boarding. We follow the path of a passenger on the "Boarding Bridge" onto the waiting Finnair Airbus A319 where we are greeted by the always very professional, friendly and polite Finnair Cabin Crew. The viewer then gets a view of the cabin while passengers are still boarding and also a view out the window. This Airbus A319 has a 3-3 seating and we have pre-booked a window seat and middle seat in advance so as to ensure a window seat behind the wing for this flight. Pre-booking of seats on Finnair flights costs money and you have to pay on all flights Short Haul, Medium Haul or Long Haul. It is free if you wait until check in at the airport or a certain amount of hours before the flight. Seats are often automatically allocated to passengers up to 24 hours before the flight. If you are a couple or group of travelers wishing to sit together it is worthwhile paying the extra amount to get you chosen seats. I have been on many flights where couples and groups have unwillingly been split up because they had not prebooked/prepayed their seats. The footage continues with the pushback of the aircraft, we then taxi out towards runway 22R (which is the location, close to Flyvergrillen, where many of our spotting videos are filmed). We then see the takeoff and are given a cloud surf passing over various islands including Hven which lies between Denmark and Sweden. We then have a few more onboard cabin views until it is time for drinks. Soft drink beverages and water are free on Finnair short haul flights and are not accompanied by any inflight snacks (not even peanuts). Beer, wine, spirits and light snacks can be purchased onboard. Prices of alcoholic beverages and snacks available on Finnairs Short Haul flight are filmed onboard from the Menu. After the footage of drinks being served by our cabin crew the footage again shows us cloud surfing and the aircraft starting its landing approach. Our landing approach is filmed with nice views of the below landscape as we break through the clouds. Helsinki Airport welcomes us with very grey, overcast and rainy conditions. We are given a view of the landing of the aircraft at Helsinki Airport (HEL) and then watch out the window as we make our way towards Gate 27. We then get a view of the passengers in the cabin as disembarkation begins. We follow the disembarkation bridge from the aircraft into Helskini Vantaa airport and then the footage ends with a view of the beautiful Finnair Airbus A319 with registration OH-LVI which has just flown us from Copenhagen to Helsinki in approximately 1 hour and 25 minutes. All in all it was a pleasant and very quick short haul Finnair flight AY666. This Airbus A319 with registration OH-LVI was delivered to Finnair in March 2003. Prior to this the aircraft was operated by Charterhouse Leasing with registration F-WQQZ (from July 2002) and Sabena with registration OO-SSL (from November 2000). This Finnair Airbus A319-112 had it´s first flight in October 2000. This aviation footage is filmed at Copenhagen Airport (CPH) in Denmark and at Helsinki Vantaa Airport (HEL) in Finland. We are onboard a Finnair Airbus A319 flight between the two capital cities. TRIP REPORT - Bangkok Airways Economy Class Flight to Koh Samui on an Airbus A319 Flight
AIRLINE TRIP REPORT ►Watch more of our Airline Trip Reports here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5vnB59Zi3AI&list=PLFZOg4H3C0gGcY8HOUkh-fWwELBYuWXn2 Bangkok Airways Flight PG127 to Koh Samui (USM) from Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) in Thailand. This is a short Bangkok Air flight review (Tripreport) of Bangkok Airways flight PG127 from Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) to Koh Samui Airport (USM). This is onboard (cabin view video footage of the flight seen from the perspective of a passenger flying in Bangkok Airways Economy Class and includes the takeoff from Bangkok Airport and also the landing at Koh Samui Airport (Samui Airport). This onboard cabin view flight footage begins in Bangkok´s Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) where we are travelling in a transit bus towards our Bangkok Airways aircraft, an Airbus A319-132 with flight number PG127 and aircraft registration HS-PGN. Bangkok Airways has named this aircraft "Luang Prabang". The footage then shows some close up footage of the aircraft and her engine while we climb the stairs on board the aircraft where we are greeted by the Bangkok Airways cabin crew. The Bangkok Air cabin crew are friendly and very professional. The first thing you notice when walking through the aircraft is the steam vapor coming from the ventilation system. I am not quite sure whether this is because of the hot Bangkok climate or whether cool steam is purposely pumped in to the cabin. The footage then shows some of Bangkok Airway´s in flight safety video before the aircraft begins her pushback. We then view the takeoff from Bangkok Airport where it begins to rain while on our run down the runway. The footage includes our inflight meal and then we begin with the descent footage for our landing at Koh Samui Airport. Our aircraft lands at Koh Samui where it lands from the Northern side of the airport (the Big Buddha Side). The disembarkation from our aircraft and the drive to our gate are also included. We had a very enjoyable flight with fantastic inflight service by the cabin crew, free beverages (including alcoholic drinks) and a lovely in flight meal. Bangkok Airways lives up to its own description "Asia´s Boutique Airline". This really is a Boutique Airline that delivers a little bit extra even to Economy Class passengers! Our flight from Bangkok´s Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) to Koh Samui Airport (USM) too approximately one hour and five minutes. Bangkok Airways flight PG127 was a pleasant and very quick short-haul flight. This Airbus A319 with registration HS-PGN and was delivered to Bangkok Airways in January 2009. Bangkok Airways named this aircraft "Luang Prabang". Prior to this the aircraft does not appear to have been owned or operated by any other airline. This Airbus A319-132 had its first flight in January 2009. This aviation footage is filmed at Bangkok´s Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) in Thailand and at Koh Samui Airport (USM) also in Thailand. TRIP REPORT - Bangkok Airways Economy Class Flight to Hong Kong on an Airbus A319
AIRLINE TRIP REPORT ►Watch more of our Airline Trip Reports here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5vnB59Zi3AI&list=PLFZOg4H3C0gGcY8HOUkh-fWwELBYuWXn2 Bangkok Airways Flight PG873 to Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) from Koh Samui (USM) in Thailand. This is a short Bangkok Airways flight review (Trip Report) of Bangkok Airways flight PG873 from Koh Samui Airport (USM) to Hong Kong International Airport (HKG). This is onboard (cabin view video footage of the flight seen from the perspective of a passenger flying in Bangkok Airways Economy Class and includes the takeoff from Ko Samui (Samui Airport) and also the landing at Hong Kong International Airport. This onboard cabin view trip report of our Bangkok Airways Economy Class flight begins at Koh Samui Airport at Bangkok Airway´s "Courtesy Corner". Bangkok Air describes themselves as Asia's Boutique Airline and pride themselves with providing a little bit extra fall all the passengers regardless of whether they are flying business class or economy class. Courtesy Corner is Bangkok Airs lounge for economy class passengers and provides a selection of free beverages (non alcoholic) and snacks, newspapers etc.for their passengers. After the Economy Lounge Area the video moves on to our departure Gate which was Gate 6. From this area we are transported in tram-like vehicles to our waiting aircraft. Our aircraft was an Airbus A319 with flight registration HS-PGY. Before take off a Bangkok Air ATR-72 can be seen getting her "pushback" prior to departure. We then follow our aircraft's own take off over Bang Rak (The Big Buddha side of the Island). As the flaps are folded away our flight to Hong Kong begins. Shortly after takeoff we are presented with a nice selection of drinks and a light dinner. All drinks served onboard this Bangkok Airways Economy class flight where free for all passengers (including alcoholic drinks). The in-flight meal was a delicious potato salad, a Massaman Curry and a lovely piece of cheesecake for dessert and of course the obligatory bun which is included on all inflight meals. The stewardess provided us with complimentary headphones so that we called watch the inflight movie or listen to music. There was not any in flight entertainment system on this aircraft so passengers could watch the cabin monitors which folded out above their heads in the cabin The movie played on our particular flight was "Rio 2". After dinner the evening begins to creep in more and more and it begins to become darker and more cloudy as we fly over Vietnam where the Summer Monsoon is currently active. Watch out for the large clouds and lightning as we fly over Vietnam. This flight review footage then shows our final approach towards Hong Kong International Airport with a few views of Hong Kong City. After landing we follow the full and rather long taxi of the aircraft to its gate at "North Satellite Concourse". The video ends with the passengers disembarkation of Bangkok Airways Flight PG873 to Hong Kong. This was a superb flight managed by a highly competent excellent and friendly cabin crew! The flight crew was also fantastic, and we had the pleasure to have a chat with the captain on the way to the arrivals terminal in the bus. This Boutique Airline is fantastic and I would choose to fly with this airline anytime..... as long as the level of service is always the same as they offer now. This aviation footage is filmed at Koh Samui Airport (USM) in Thailand and onboard a Bangkok Airways Airbus A319 from the economy class passenger cabin. We are onboard flight PG 873 flying from Koh Samui to Hong Kong. The Most Luxurious First Class Airlines
What are the most luxurious and expensive first class airlines in the world? Subscribe to our channel: http://goo.gl/9CwQhg Description: This particular video will probably make you feel really, really poor. But at the same time, will give you a new lease on life and goal to achieve. Flying first class is always an extra luxury that people with money can enjoy in their air travel. You can’t beat first class with the wider seats, the beverages, better food, and service that makes you feel like you’re royalty. If you’re flying across the country, then first class is definitely more comfortable, and you rarely have to deal with the tiny seats and being forced to be in closed quarters with complete strangers. But there are airlines who have taken the concept of first class and bumped it up a notched. Here are some of the most luxurious first class sections in the airline industry. The cost? Well, let’s just say you’ll probably have to save your salary for the next several years to be able to afford it. For $13,000 you can be a premiere passenger on an Air France flight, which includes a space where you can store all of your valuables, along with a bed, a reading lamp, and curtains so you can have some privacy. Quantas Airlines has a set up similar to that and puts it on steroids. If you’ve ever wanted to have the feeling like you’re on your very own jet, Quantas is the way to go with your own privacy pod that comes with its own suite, as well as a common area for wealthy passengers to get together and mingle. This can be all yours for $13,500. Ever wanted to know what it’s like to be tucked into bed by a flight attendant? Well, Singapore Airlines does just that. You’re immediately given pajamas that are designed by Givenchy, and toiletries by Ferragamo. Your seat can also be transformed into a fluffy bed, where the flight attendants will see to it that you’re tucked in and comfy. Tickets for this experience starts at $15,000. For $25,000, you can have the ultimate first class experience with Cathay Pacific Airlines, where you can have your own pod. This includes a chair that silently transforms into a full length bed. The pod is also adorned with a vase with orchids, so you feel a bit more at home and close to nature. Lufthansa has taken the first class game and improved it. Not only do you get a big comfy chair, but you get a bed as well. The chair is pumped with gadgets as well for your enjoyment. You don’t even have to worry about breathing dry air, as the cabin is pumped with a humidifier. Tickets for this experience starts at $27,000. Finally, these last two airlines are basically like flying hotel rooms. Emirates Airlines offers a private cabin with a mini bar, adjustable lighting, as well as a full shower with a marble sink. So if you really need to freshen up, it’s a lot better than the tiny bathroom in coach. They even have a communal lounge where you can enjoy drinks and hors d’ouerves. All of this can be yours for $30,000. Finally, we have Etihad Airways, who have diamond first class suites with three room cabins. These cabins also include a full size bathroom with a luxurious shower. You can even have your own butler! What’s the cost? $43,000. New Hawaiian Airlines Airbus A330 Economy Class Flight Trip Seattle to Maui
Check out my flight onboard a new Hawaiian Airlines Airbus A330 aka known as Kūkalani'ehu N373HA amongst the fleet from Seattle to Maui, Hawaii. Did you know all of Hawaiian's aircraft are named after star constellations? The fact that I rode a new aircraft could've overseen any flaws with this trip, but other than the booking there was nothing that went wrong in my eyes. Judge for yourself as you'll witness the trip from check-in at KSEA Seattle, WA to walking off the plane in OGG Maui, Hawaii. My complaints: 1. My seats were switched after booking trying to force me and my wife to sit on seperate sides of the aircraft. We booked this flight over 3 months before the date and didn't find this acceptable so it took a bit of back and forth over the phone a week before the flight with customer service to get things straightened out. The funny thing was, I noticed most everyone sitting next to their party members on the day of the flight but talking to customer service this was almost impossible to have happen for me. 2. The IFE was way overpriced. No longer are the digi-players available. The best deal would be to get the TV package ($6.99) as it'll provide you with hours of entertainment during the flight with the wide variety of TV shows. Movies ($7.99 per film) are all modern titles fresh out of the theater. 3. Food: I found the snack mix to be much more edible than the main meal. Hawaiian use to have a connection with a top chef on the islands and a lot of people found the meals enjoyable for air food. Bring it back. Pros: Love the service! Hawaiian Airlines puts Delta to shame when it comes to service to the islands. Every HA flight I've been on has mostly been on-time within reason, the equipment regardless of age has felt clean and modern. When you board a Hawaiian aircraft, it already feels like your Hawaiian vacation has begun. 4 out of 5 stars. If it weren't for the seating mix-up due to booking with their website's vacation package page I'd give a 5. Filmed: October 2014

China Southern Sydney - Guangzhou A380 Flight Trip
Basically this is a video of my flight from Sydney - Guangzhou. It's nice to fly on the A388 before it stops flying on the SYD-CAN route and becomes replaced by a much smaller A332. Details: Date: December 8th 2013 Departure (Sydney): 11:15 am (AEST +1) Arrival (Guangzhou): 5:00 pm (CST) Flight Number: CZ326 Camera Details: Nikon D3200 + Kit Lens (I know quality isn't that good but I'm planning to get a camcorder) I apologize in advance if you don't like some of the shaking, but in the future I plan to get a stand and put it onto the armrest so I can record more videos with consistency. :)

Lil Prop - Big Trip (POV Ultralight Flying Movie)
"LilProp-BigTrip" is the music video ending to Brian FitzGerald's documentary about Ultralight Flying titled "UFM2" (Ultralight Flying Millennium 2). "Lil Prop" is designed to take you along with The Sky Surfer on a low level, mythical Kansas Flight Adventure. Much of the music video was shot in 2009 with the final section being completed in 2014. Much effort was made to place cameras at various positions on the airplane in order to give you a sense of "being there". Special credit goes to Cameraman Jeff Johnson who shot most of the "ground to air" sequences. In addition to flying the plane and editing the piece, FitzGerald wrote and performed the music under this video. The uploading of "Lil Prop" will start a "slow release" of the entire "UFM2" movie to YouTube.

Flight from Winter - 1940s Florida Trip Aboard United Airlines DC-3 32490 HD
A Kodachrome home movie made by a member of the Amateur Cinema League and titled "Flight From Winter", this film shows a trip to Florida made in the 1940s. The film begins with a flight on an Eastern Airlines DC-3. The aircraft lands at Washington National Airport and also stops in Savannah, Georgia before finally landing in Florida. There are fascinating images of on-board service and airports and facilities in this era. The rest of the film includes rare images of Florida in beautiful color, including a visit to the Brooklyn Dodgers training camp, the Pan Am Airlines seaplane base, Ringing Brother and Barnum and Bailey Circus winter quarters, Ocala, St. Petersburg, the Keys, Cypress Gardens, and much more. The Goodyear Blimp even makes an appearance. This film is part of the Periscope Film LLC archive, one of the largest historic military, transportation, and aviation stock footage collections in the USA. Entirely film backed, this material is available for licensing in 24p HD. For more information visit http://www.PeriscopeFilm.com

Which is the best ticket to book? One-way, round trip and multi tickets explained - FAQ Fridays
This week on FAQ Friday which is the best ticket to book? One-way, round trip or multi tickets. Post your questions in the comments below if you would like them answered by our in-house expert, Nick Paul. For the past few weeks we've been answering your frequently asked travel questions in these videos. Thanks so much for sending them in, keep them coming! Who knows, we may make them into a video next week. We were asked a question this week about whether it's cheaper to buy 2 one way tickets or a round trip ticket and thought this was a good opportunity to explain these two concepts as well as that of multi-city tickets. First of all, let's define these terms: One-way tickets refer to a journey which starts in one place, and goes to a destination but doesn't include a return journey. E.g. Joburg to London, either direct or via another city. Round trip tickets refer to journey which go to a destination and return from that destination back home again. E.g. Joburg to London and back, either direct or via another city. Multi-city tickets refer to a journey which is broken for longer than 24 hours in more than one point on the trip. E.g. Joburg to London via Dubai with 3 days in Dubai and a week in London. To understand how this all works, we must start with round trip tickets: A round trip ticket (also known as a return ticket) may look like it's made of 2 one-way tickets, for example: Cape Town to Joburg and back again contains 2 flights, one for the way there, and one for the way back. Are these not just 2 one way tickets? For local flights within South Africa, you'd be right, these are in fact made up of 2 one-way tickets. It's for this reason that Travelstart's website is able to mix and match different airlines in each direction to get you a cheaper deal. This rule doesn't apply to international flights though; here flight prices are usually worked out as full round trip tickets and one-way tickets are usually worked out as 75% of a round trip fare and a relevant portion of the taxes. So quitting your job to buy a one-way ticket to Thailand and buying the one-way ticket back "when you feel like returning from paradise", might not work out very cheaply. That, and immigration officials will not let you into the country without proof that you're leaving within the allotted time. This rule is even truer for flights on certain airlines like KLM and Lufthansa, and especially for flights to destinations in North America, where many airlines don't do one way tickets at all. In fact if you try and buy a one way ticket here you'll end up paying more than for a round trip ticket. And weirder still, if you travel only to your destination and try to apply for a refund for the return portion of your ticket, the airline may try and charge you for the difference between a round trip ticket and a one way ticket! So, let's touch quickly on multi-city tickets. Multi-city tickets often work out cheaper than making multiple round trip journeys to different destinations. However, with each break in the journey the airline may charge you a fee, also the country in question may charge you extra security or passenger duties. This is most evident on flight tickets via the UK, where a break in the journey in London adds a minimum of around R1500 to the ticket price. But, if you're travelling on a flight like that, it's certainly cheaper to break the journey than to make another separate trip to the city. So that's it from me this week on FAQ Fridays. If you have any travel-related questions please ask them in the comments below and we may make a video about them. TRIP REPORT - Southwest Airlines, St. Louis to Washington DC (DCA)
Trip Report time! I've always wanted to visit DC, so when Southwest put the route on sale over the summer, I couldn't resist. (Seriously, the flight was $99. Gotta love Southwest.) This video includes footage of driving through St. Louis early on a Saturday morning, parking at my favorite parking lot, a brief look around Terminal 2 at Lambert, footage of the whole flight, landing at Washington National Airport, my hotel, and a little montage of exploring the city with one of my best friends. I'd call that a successful day! Flight went well. My seatmate was very friendly (you'll probably notice that she liked to talk quite a bit). Overall, the whole experience was about as pleasant as a short flight can be. The return trip (no video) was just as smooth. Only difference was that the plane was empty (and I mean EMPTY, likely less than 1/4 full). It was so deserted that I got an ENTIRE EXIT ROW TO MYSELF! Don't believe me? https://www.flickr.com/photos/missourisphotographer/15256785474/in/set-72157647136619454/ About the audio problems - For some reason, the footage from my small handheld camera (all of the footage out the window of the plane) was corrupted and nearly lost. I managed to recover most of it, but you might notice some artifacts in the sound from the recovery process. Tried to edit out as much of it as I could. Sorry about that! The SD card in that camera has since been permanently retired. The Douglas DC-7 is a transport aircraft built by the Douglas Aircraft Company from 1953 to 1958. It was the last major piston engine-powered transport made by Douglas, being developed shortly after the earliest jet airliner – the de Havilland Comet – entered service and only a few years before the jet-powered Douglas DC-8 first flew.
