It is notable for its place as the home of the entertainment industry, including several of its historic studios. Its name has come to be a metonym for the motion picture industry of the United States. Hollywood is also a highly ethnically diverse, densely populated, economically diverse neighborhood and retail business district. Hollywood was a small community in 1870 and was incorporated as a municipality in 1903. It officially merged with the city of Los Angeles in 1910, and soon thereafter a prominent film industry began to emerge, eventually becoming the most dominant and recognized in the world... History In 1853, one adobe hut stood in Nopalera (Nopal field), named for the Mexican Nopal cactus indigenous to the area. By 1870, an agricultural community flourished. The area was known as the Cahuenga Valley, after the pass in the Santa Monica Mountains immediately to the north. The name "Hollywood" was coined by H. J. Whitley, the "Father of Hollywood". Originally the name "Figwood" was to be used to name the area due to the surrounding number of fig trees. Whitley arranged to buy the 500-acre (2.0 km2) E.C. Hurd ranch and disclosed to him his plans for the land. They agreed on a price and Hurd agreed to sell at a later date. Before Whitley got off the ground with Hollywood, plans for the new town had spread to General Harrison Gray Otis, Hurd's wife, eastern adjacent ranch co-owner Daeida Wilcox, and others. An alternate derivation for the name comes from histories on Hollywood, Illinois (now part of Brookfield, IL) and Hollywood, Florida... By 1900, the region had a post office, newspaper, hotel, and two markets. Los Angeles, with a population of 102,479 lay 10 miles (16 km) east through the vineyards, barley fields, and citrus groves. A single-track streetcar line ran down the middle of Prospect Avenue from it, but service was infrequent and the trip took two hours... Hollywood was incorporated as a municipality on November 14, 1903... In 1910, the city voted for merger with Los Angeles in order to secure an adequate water supply and to gain access to the L.A. sewer system... By 1912, major motion-picture companies had set up production near or in Los Angeles. In the early 1900s, most motion picture patents were held by Thomas Edison's Motion Picture Patents Company in New Jersey, and filmmakers were often sued to stop their productions. To escape this, filmmakers began moving out west, where Edison's patents could not be enforced. Also, the weather was ideal and there was quick access to various settings. Los Angeles became the capital of the film industry... Director D. W. Griffith was the first to make a motion picture in Hollywood. His 17-minute short film In Old California, was filmed for the Biograph Company. Although Hollywood banned movie theaters—of which it had none—before annexation that year, Los Angeles had no such restriction. The first film by a Hollywood studio, Nestor Motion Picture Company, was shot on October 26, 1911. The Whitley home was used as its set, and the unnamed movie was filmed in the middle of their groves at the corner of Whitley Avenue and Hollywood Boulevard. The first studio in Hollywood, the Nestor Company, was established by the New Jersey–based Centaur Company in a roadhouse at 6121 Sunset Boulevard (the corner of Gower), in October 1911. Four major film companies – Paramount, Warner Bros., RKO, and Columbia – had studios in Hollywood, as did several minor companies and rental studios. In the 1920s, Hollywood was the fifth largest industry in the nation. Hollywood became known as Tinseltown and Movie Biz City because of the glittering image of the movie industry. Hollywood has since become a major center for film study in the United States...

It is 1933, eight years after the events of The Mummy (1999). Legionnaire Rick O'Connell Brendan Fraser has married his Egyptologist girlfriend Evelyn Carnahan (Rachel Weisz) and the couple has settled in London, where they're raising their young son Alex (Freddie Boath). Intel vs AMD? Forget it. The processor wars of the 90s are almost as legendary as Sega vs. Nintendo or Amiga vs. Atari. While Intel was improving the 386 and 486, competitors popped up like AMD and Cyrix, leaving Intel with a lot more competition on their hands than today, and various lawsuits followed along the way. These companies were dedicated to overtaking Intel in the processor race, and when Intel jumped to the Pentium, Cyrix and AMD weren't far behind with 5x86 and 6x86 processor iterations (AMD with their K6). This video will explore the whole Cyrix story, from their setup to their unfortunate demise. Along the way I'll ask the important question; Did Quake kill off Cyrix? Was it the undoing of an entire processor designer?.... It's a question which has basis in the Cyrix 686 processor's poor FPU performance and John Carmack's coding which leaned heavily on Intel FPU design. But it might not be the only reason why this silicon chip designer bit the bullet. This is an era where it wasn't just Intel vs AMD, or a simple price vs performance war. This was an era of Intel vs AMD vs Cyrix vs IDT, and for me, having lived through it, it's absolutely fascinating. Sit back and witness glorious CPUs like the Cyrix 5x86, the 6x86, the MediaGX and the MII series. Along with early math co-processors that helped to make early x86 machines fly father than an IBM blue lightning chip set. ** For exclusive videos, mystery boxes and other rewards, please consider supporting me at; https://www.patreon.com/nostalgianerd?ty=h ** ☟Sharing☟ If you wish to share this video in forums, social media, on your website, *please do so*! 100 Years of Universal: The Carl Laemmle Era (HD, 9 minutes): Universal founder Carl Laemmle and his vision for the future of cinema. A century later, that vision still resonates. Carl Laemmle (born Karl Lämmle; January 17, 1867 – September 24, 1939) was a pioneer in American film making and a founder of Universal Studios. Laemmle produced or worked on over 400 films. Regarded as one of the most important of the early film pioneers, Laemmle was born in modern-day Germany. He emigrated to the United States in 1884 and worked in Chicago for 20 years before he began buying nickelodeons, eventually expanding into a film distribution service, the Laemmle Film Service. After moving to New York, Carl Laemmle got involved in producing movies, forming Independent Moving Pictures (IMP); the city was the site of many new movie-related businesses. On April 30, 1912, in New York, Laemmle of IMP, Pat Powers of Powers Motion Picture Company, Mark Dintenfass of Champion Film Company, William Swanson of Rex Motion Picture Company, David Horsley of Nestor Film Company, and Charles Baumann and Adam Kessel of the New York Motion Picture Company, merged their studios and incorporated the Universal Film Manufacturing Company, with Laemmle assuming the role of president. They founded the Company with studios in Fort Lee, New Jersey, where many early film studios in America's first motion picture industry were based at the beginning of the 20th century. In 1915, the studio moved to 235 acres (0.95 km2) of land in the San Fernando Valley, California. Universal maintained two East Coast offices: The first was located at 1600 Broadway, New York City. This building, initially known as The Studebaker building, was razed around 2004-5. The second location to house Universal's executive offices was at 730 Fifth Avenue, New York City. Many years later, 445 Park Avenue was the location of Universal's executive offices. After moving to California, Laemmle purchased as a residence for his family the former home of film pioneer Thomas Ince on Benedict Canyon Drive, Beverly Hills. The house was razed in the early 1940s. Laemmle also maintained a large apartment for himself and his two children, Rosabelle Laemmle (later Bergerman) and Carl Jr., at 465 West End Avenue, New York City, one block off Riverside Drive near the Hudson River. In 1916, Laemmle sponsored the $3,000 three-foot-tall solid silver Universal Trophy for the winner of the annual Universal race at the Uniontown Speedway board track in southwestern Pennsylvania. Universal filmed each race from 1916 to 1922. Carl Laemmle, although having made hundreds of movies in his active years as a producer (1909-1934), is probably best remembered for The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1923), The Phantom of The Opera (1925), both with Lon Chaney Sr. in the title role, and The Man Who Laughs (1928). He died from cardiovascular disease on September 24, 1939, in Beverly Hills, California, at the age of 72.Laemmle was entombed in the Chapel Mausoleum at Home of Peace Cemetery." ~ wikipedia.org Spoken: Steven J. 10 Inappropriate Disney Movie Scenes Parents Totally Missed! Subscribe to our channel: http://goo.gl/ho3Hg6 Disney has spent years delivering top-notch entertainment for children, but there’s plenty for parents to enjoy as well. Along with broad humors and pop-culture references, Disney animators have found multiple ways to sneak in inappropriate jokes to a number of their films. In Toy Story 3, we learn a little TOO much about the relationship that MR. and Mrs. Potato Head have. In Hercules, the hero goes up against many monsters including a very odd-looking centaur. In Ratatouille, there are multiple references to a male’s private area even though the animators try to be subtle about it. Bambi may be one of Disney’s oldest films, but it still featured a joke that only older audiences would process. Cars featured not one, but two jokes about the female anatomy and the way the vehicle universe views different things. This includes a flashing joke early on in the film and another joke referring to topless cars at a truck stop. Inside Out takes place in San Francisco and features a joke about the city’s gay community. Robin Williams returned for Aladdin and The King Thieves to deliver some great one-liners and a joke that probably went out kids heads. The Emperor’s New Groove takes a pun about the male body to a literal sense with a quick scene and visual gag. Frozen features some funny banter between Anna and Kristoff that eventually leads to a pretty risque foot size question. Watch to see all of these inappropriate scenes and judge them for yourself! We're in Universal Orlando's ISLANDS OF ADVENTURE with our friends the Silva Family ( https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAmIiX-XCFAsaP-3fj_q0cQ )! We're here at the Universal Orlando Resort to have some fun for a couple of days. There are two parks to choose from Islands of Adventure, and Universal Studios. A new waterpark, Volcano Bay, will opening up in May! The day wound up being a very wet and rainy one which made riding outdoor rides a bit interesting. Some highlights were Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey & Flight of the Hippogriff, Dragon Challenge in Hogsmeade, King Kong Skull Island: Reign of Kong, The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man and the kids enjoyed hanging out in Suess Landing. We wound up skipping Jurassic Park and the other water rides as weather wasn't very warm. But by the end of the night we were all soaked anyway. CHECK OUT OUR OTHER CHANNELS! Since the formation of the United Arab Emirates in 1971, Abu Dhabi and Dubai have grown from modest fishing ports and trading posts with traditional wind towers into thriving, vibrant cities renowned for their modern buildings and world-class airports, seaports and infrastructure. As one of the leading organisations behind this transformation, the Saeed & Mohammed Al Naboodah Group began operating in construction in the 1960s, and in 2007 consolidated its construction businesses to form the 12,000 employee strong Al Naboodah Construction Group LLC. By bringing together this wealth of experience and expertise the Al Naboodah Construction Group now boasts a wide range of civil engineering, building and MEP capabilities, operating across a variety of sectors and managed from the new office in Al Awir, Dubai.

Hercules movie clips: http://j.mp/1BcPc3B BUY THE MOVIE: http://j.mp/11SCnNQ Don't miss the HOTTEST NEW TRAILERS: http://bit.ly/1u2y6pr CLIP DESCRIPTION: Hercules (Lou Ferrigno) battles a giant robot on the isle of Thera, but Circe (Mirella D'Angelo) dies. FILM DESCRIPTION: The 12 labors of Hercules were not the objective of this film starring Lou Ferrigno as the semi-divine son of Zeus and the mortal Alcmene. Hercules must rescue Princess Cassiopea from her kidnappers, fight off grotesque laser-breathing monsters and in one case, jettison a giant bear up into space where it becomes Ursa Major, the Big Dipper or "Great Bear" constellation. Off-color (many scenes are in dim, bluish stage sets) and low-budget, this incarnation of Hercules may find unconverted viewers a difficult, 13th challenge to conquer. There are 20 clip clop neigh doggos racing in the Kentucky Derpy and they have very funny names. Okay, so they're not the real names. But these are better, and we diagrammed them out in a chart. What was once known as a horse is now referred to as a clip clop neigh doggo. Animal professionals around the world now recognize this as the new scientific name. The Kentucky Derpy features clip clop neigh doggos racing at incredibly hihg speeds. Only 20 of them get to race, and they traditionally have fairly unusual names. This year's contestants are: Fast Casual, Watch Me Neigh Neigh, Hoof Heffner, Where My Keys At, Yankee Poodle Prancy, I'm Just Gray, Interstate 80, Ted Danson, Secrechariot, Charlie, Bye Felicia, Gunther's Heating & Air, Gronkowski, Smoked Halibut, Spirit - Stallion of the Cinnabon, #hashtag, Sea Triscuit, Sooperdoofer, Shadowflex, and Gerald. The Kentucky Derpy attracts many hoomans and all of them wear ridiculous hats. Then they drink mint tulips while betting all their moneys. There are different odds depending on a clip clop neigh doggo's chances of winning: like 5/2, 8/1, or 1,000,000/1. A clip clop neigh doggo must wear a hooman while it races. They prefer to carry smol circus clowns who wear diaper pants. Sometimes called a “founding father” of French feature animation, Didier Brunner first became a force in the industry in 1987 when he founded Trans Europe Film and produced, among other films, “Tales of the Night.” Didier left Trans Europe in 1994 to form the company Les Armateurs, through which he produced some of the most notable animated films of all time, among them: the features “Kirikou and the Sorceress” (1998), “The Triplets of Belleville” (2003), “The Secret of Kells” (2009), “Ernest & Celestine” (2012) and “Kirikou and the Men and Women” (2012). He has also produced the television series “Lupo Alberto” (1998), “Charley and Mimmo” (1999), “Belphegor” (2001) and “Kiri le clown” (2005). Didier received both a BAFTA and a Genie Award for the 1998 animated short “The Old Lady and the Pigeons,” which he co produced with director Sylvain Chomet and Bernard Lajoie. Having stepped down as president Les Armateurs earlier this year, Didier exhibits no plans to retire. Instead, he will remain as a head of development for the company, and will expand his expertise in the animation field to the field of education and training. On January 31, Didier received the Winsor McCay Award in recognition of lifetime or career contributions to the art of animation. Director Tomm Moore gave the opening presentation. A quiet Irish village community is turned upside down with the arrival of a Hollywood film crew looking for the ‘real’ Ireland for their latest schmaltzy blockbuster. A pair of extras, Charlie and Jake, watch with amazement, envy and delight as cultures clash, divas strop, and everyone fights over the last portion of lemon meringue pie. Two actors play a vast array of eccentric and lovable characters in this comic theatre sensation. Written with poignancy and sincerity, performed at breakneck pace, this accessible play has made audiences roar with laughter across the world. This brand new production, co-produced by The Dukes, will be touring the UK following its run in Lancaster.

Для этого он должен совершить несколько подвигов и победить злодеев, в конце лицом к лицу встретившись со своим дядей, повелителем подземного мира, богом Аидом, ответственным за то, что после рождения Геркулес потерял своё бессмертие. Stones in His Pockets By Marie Jones Directed by Derek Goldman When a big Hollywood film crew takes over a small Irish town, the locals line up to earn their "40-quid-a-day" as extras—and maybe pursue some dreams of their own. Charlie wants to write a blockbuster screenplay, while Jake would settle for a date with the lovely leading lady. Where they and their neighbors end up ultimately surprises them all. An "uproarious, joyful evening" (New York Daily News) with two actors playing more than a dozen characters, Stones is an acting tour de force both rollicking and poignant. "The evening moves with infectious gusto from the second it begins. " --The New York Daily News "It is sheer, nutty, rarefied fun... worth a leprechaun's ransom." --The New York Post Click here for more information about STONES IN HIS POCKETS: https://www.centerstage.org/2013-14Season/StonesinHisPockets.aspx http://centerstage.org http://facebook.com/CENTERSTAGEMD http://twitter.com/centerstage_md

Leading with vibrant red and green imagery and its cause-based mission, WTRMLN WTR has shown a keen understanding of how to grab eyes and keep them watching. Launched just three years ago, it’s parlayed that proficiency to go from fledgling startup to a nationally distributed cold-pressed juice brand that counts Beyonce as an investor. WTRMLN WTR co-founder and creative director Jody Levy offered up the company’s story and marketing strategy as a case study last week at BevNET Live Winter 2016 in Santa Monica, outlining the ideas and methods that turned WTRMLN WTR into a standout and striking brand. The Core Story Coming from a background in abstract art, Levy and company co-founder Harlan Berger came up with the idea for WTRMLN WTR after learning there are 800 million pounds of unused watermelons in America every year. Berger proposed using these unwanted melons to make a juice. According to Levy, this set forward the company’s goal of developing models of food production that eliminate waste and make the most out of crops. Having a goal and mission, she said, were major drivers of the WTRMLN WTR brand. With a commitment to the environment, Levy and Berger soon discovered watermelon juice also had health benefits, including vitamins and anti-inflammatories that help muscle growth post-workout. From there, the target demographic became clear. “Once you develop a product, it’s really important to distill the core communication,” Levy said. “Cause there’s often times a lot of stories and a lot of people we’re talking to. And for us, our core communication is hydration. Everything’s hydration. How do we tell the world not why they would like to have WTRMLN WTR but why they need to have WTRMLN WTR? Every day, before and after workouts.” Upon its launch, WTRMLN WTR released ads throughout their markets featuring bottles of the beverage with the word “hydration” emphasized, getting across that “core communication” to consumers. The Brand Experience Another key to getting a brand going: figure out how to connect people with your brand, Levy said. Making it “memorable and reciprocal” is one way to do that. For WTRMLN WTR, the company hired young models to dress in full watermelon-themed bodysuits. The models were named “Baby Dolls,” and their job was pretty straightforward:go out, meet and interact with people. “Everything that we do is about is about clean hydration and fitness,” she said. “So we activate at yoga events, we do outdoor running clubs, we do indoor fitness. We do boxing events, we have cycling teams, we go to Sundance and do on-mountain activations. We’ve even thrown early morning dance parties as a fitness alternative. So we try to bring the essence of the brand into non-traditional places where our brand is activated.” The Mantra “If we were all as discerning as millennials, the world we live in would be a better place,” Levy said. Pointing to company research, Levy said millennials largely want the brands they engage with to “give back” and help people and the planet. For WTRMLN WTR, this means carefully sourcing non-GMO melons and creating a strong relationship with their farmers. Transparency, she said, equals trust. “It’s about how we do the voodoo we do,” Levy said. “This is something to think about as you’re telling your stories, especially as this new audience is growing and really wants to know where our food comes from, where our products come from, how they’re manufactured, who’s touching them. Transparency is everything.” Designing the Visuals In the field of the open market, WTRMLN WTR has the advantage of strong minimalist visuals and bright colors to help draw in customers to its pop-up shops and in-store displays. But to achieve that, Levy said, took a knowledge of the target audience and instinct. “When developing any brand aesthetic it’s all about who are we talking to and what are we trying to do with it,” Levy said during a Q&A portion of the presentation. “So there was a goal for us from the beginning to make this brand accessible to anybody, not just in the natural channel, but to anybody. And we set out to make a brand that’s really accessible in that way – that’s poppy and bright and easy to understand.” In order to “own the melon,” WTRMLN WTR based everything it could around the visuals of the melon. Levy, an artist and designer, also focused on “pop” influences, focusing on the bright, simple and visually communicative. “It’s almost like actions speak louder than words, the aesthetic speaks louder than the words on it,” she said.

Here's some footage of some other fun stuff we did that day. We started off with a visit to Disneyland to get in some rides. It was a busy day and lines were long. So we only got to ride Star Tours before jumping on the monorail and heading back to the Rainforest Cafe to get ready for the Meet and Greet. Five hours later, we were back at Disneyland for some more action! Jillian and MommyTube went to the Haunted Mansion while Evan and DaddyTube took a trip on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Pirates of the Caribbean. Then we met up and headed over to the Indiana Jones Adventure and The Jungle Cruise. We got a Fast Pass for Splash Mountain but it wasn't until 10:30pm so we killed time watching fireworks and going on the Dumbo the Flying Elephant ride. When we finally made it over to Splash Mountain it was closed and had to be reset. Evan was happy he didn't have to walk around cold and wet. So we got cold another way by eating Haagen Dazs ice cream at Downtown Disney before heading home. Having played all over the world including a five year run in the West End, the multi award-winning comedy by Marie Jones is playing at Glen Street Theatre (Belrose) from 4 - 9 July. Stones in his Pockets is the hilarious and moving tale of a quiet Irish community turned upside down by the arrival of a Hollywood movie shoot. The film’s story of a budding romance between a rich girl and a local farmer, is played out in stark contrast with the growing friction that develops between the locals hired as extras on the film and the Hollywood big shots. Alternately riotously funny and deeply moving, the play is universally loved by all who see it. The performance features virtuosic performances by two outstanding actors who play 15 characters between them – from the two Irish extras looking for a brighter future on the silver screen, to the young local, bitter about being rejected for a job on set, to the gorgeous Hollywood superstar. Hollywood is a neighborhood in the central region of Los Angeles, California, notable as the home of the U.S. film industry including several of its historic studios. Its name has come to be a shorthand reference for the industry and the people associated with it. Hollywood was incorporated as a municipality in 1903. It was consolidated with the city of Los Angeles in 1910 and soon thereafter a prominent film industry emerged, eventually becoming the most recognizable film industry in the world.Hollywood was incorporated as a municipality on November 14, 1903, by a vote of 88 for and 77 against. On January 30, 1904, the voters in Hollywood decided, by a vote of 113 to 96, for the banishment of liquor in the city, except when it was being sold for medicinal purposes. Neither hotels nor restaurants were allowed to serve wine or liquor before or after meals. In 1910, the city voted for merger with Los Angeles in order to secure an adequate water supply and to gain access to the L.A. sewer system. With annexation, the name of Prospect Avenue changed to Hollywood Boulevard and all the street numbers were also changedBy 1912, major motion-picture companies had set up production near or in Los Angeles. In the early 1900s, most motion picture patents were held by Thomas Edison's Motion Picture Patents Company in New Jersey, and filmmakers were often sued to stop their productions. To escape this, filmmakers began moving out west to Los Angeles, where attempts to enforce Edison's patents were more easily evade, because the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals–which covered most of Southern California–was known to rule against patent claims. Also, the weather was ideal and there was quick access to various settings. Los Angeles became the capital of the film industry in the United States. The mountains, plains and low land prices made Hollywood a good place to establish film studios.Director D. W. Griffith was the first to make a motion picture in Hollywood. His 17-minute short film In Old California (1910) was filmed for the Biograph Company. Although Hollywood banned movie theaters—of which it had none—before annexation that year, Los Angeles had no such restriction. The first film by a Hollywood studio, Nestor Motion Picture Company, was shot on October 26, 1911. The H. J. Whitley home was used as its set, and the unnamed movie was filmed in the middle of their groves at the corner of Whitley Avenue and Hollywood Boulevard. In the 1920s, Hollywood was the fifth-largest industry in the nation. By the 1930s, Hollywood studios became fully vertically integrated, as production, distribution and exhibition was controlled by these companies, enabling Hollywood to produce 600 films per year. Hollywood became known as Tinseltown and the "dream factory" because of the glittering image of the movie industry. Hollywood has since become a major center for film study in the United States.

Durango Mexico Lights … camera … action! Are the orders that for more than fifty years (1954-2004) have been constantly repeated in Durango, a.k.a. ‘the Land of Cinema’, for in the City and its surroundings had been filmed dozens of movies, some of which were enacted by renowned actors from Hollywood, as Clark Gable, Burt Lancaster, Audrey Hepburn, Bob Dylan, Diane Lane, Jack Nicholson, Catherine Zeta-Jones, John Leguizamo, Marlon Brando, Brad Pitt, Salma Hayek, Dany Devito, John Belushi, Michel Douglas, Kevin Costner, Anthony Quinn, Paul Newman, John Wayne, Harrison Ford, Christopher Reeve, Ringo Starr, Russell Crowe, Robert Power, Antonio Banderas, Mel Gibson, Omar Shariff, Julia Roberts, Clint Eastwood, Chuck Norris, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, Ernest Borgnine, Leonardo di Caprio, Alec Guiness, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and directors like George lucas, Steven Spielberg, Francis Coppola, Sergio Leone, James Cameron, John Ford, Sam Peckinpah, Dino de Laurentis, John Huston, Alfonso Arau, Robert Rodriguez, Alfonso Cuaron just to mention a few of them. Unfortunately, John Candy died there filming his last Hollywood movie, “Wagon Wheels”. At the same time extremely important and Oscar winning movies like Ben Hur, The Magnificent Seven, Dr. Doctor Zhivago, Star Wars, Superman, Titanic, Pirates of the Caribbean, Conan, The Good the Bad and the Ugly, Resident Evil, Jesus of Nazareth, The Wild Bunch, Once Upun a Time in the West, The Caveman, Indiana Jones, Thor, Pearl Harbor, Nacho Libre, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, Close Encounters of the third Kind, Predator, The Mask of Zorro, Master and Commander, True Grit, Troy, Braveheart, and Mexican movies like Una Aventura en Durango, Patrulla 81, Like Water for Chocolate, Y tu Mama Tambien, Bestia Nocturna, El Juez de la Soga y Uno para la Horca. The success of Durango in the celluloid is sustained by the beauty of its natural landscapes, its nearly always clear skies, its brightened environments and of course, the colonial features of its Historical Centre. These issues became evident for the first time in the scenes of the movie “La Vida de Villa” (1912), which recounted the revolutionary struggles of Francisco “Pancho” Villa. For Ben Hur, the area of Santiago Papasquiaro in Durango was where the recreation of most of the old Roman empire took place, and for Dr Zhivago, the Sierra Madre and its snowed vistas were Russia. The desserts around the state were the other worldly locations for Star Wars. The exquisite colonial architecture of Durango, Capital of the State of the same name, is complemented by a splendid natural background, which stores some fantastic places to visit, as the mysterious zone El Silencio, a salt desert loaded with energy, which causes the compasses to go wild, the clocks to stop functioning and the radio waves get lost. NASA conduct research in this area consistently.Durango, at 903 kilometre distance from Mexico City, was the birth place of Doroteo Arango … of who? You should very justifiably ask, but the Doroteo in question was no other than the mythical Francisco “Pancho” Villa, a.k.a. the “Centaur of the North”, one of the most emblematical leaders of the Mexican Revolution in the early 20th century.Today, Durango is a city that is experiencing economical and industrial growth. The clothing company Carhartt U.S.A, has just built a new manufacturing facility near the Durango International Airport. Big name retailers like Domino’s, Blockbuster, Ace Hardware, Home Depot, Sam’s Club, Wal-Mart and McDonald’s have made Durango their home. The information contained here has been gathered from different sources and on the next list you can find more information and original posters from some of the most important movies filmed in Durango.Because of its connection to the movies, you can find in Durango a few museums dedicated to the history of movie making in the state as well as film schools providing training for the local population and important film festivals. Sergio Leone was crazy for Durango and decided to shoot The Good, the Bad and the Ugly there as well as in Spain and Italy.Hollywood noticed the beauty of Durango many years ago, one of the most beautiful states in Mexico favoring it as the number two place to go in the world when there is a need for diverse and beautiful locations that include desserts, mountains, colonial towns, blue skies, forests, water falls which number more than one hundred, snow, jungles, great light, and all close to each other. Another important aspect of the importance of Durango is that the big studios, Warner Brothers, Fox, Columbia, Disney, Miramax, World Film Magic, etc. always feel welcome and find a place where it is easy to work, find friendly people and never feel in a rush to leave. George Lucas and Steven Spielberg can attest to that.
