1. Mount Everest, also known in Nepal as Sagarmāthā and in China as Chomolungma/珠穆朗玛峰, is Earth's highest mountain. Its peak is 8,848 metres above sea level 2. The tallest artificial structure is Burj Khalifa, a skyscraper in Dubai that reached 829.8 m 3. On August 30, 2006 Steve Fossett and Einar Enevoldson, the pilots of Perlan Mission I, broke the existing altitude record for gliders by soaring up to 50,671 feet (15,460m) in a standard glider using stratospheric waves of air. 4. On November 26, 2005 Vijaypat Singhania set the world altitude record for highest hot air balloon flight, reaching 21,027 m 5. High-altitude balloons are unmanned balloons, usually filled with helium or hydrogen and rarely methane, that are released into the stratosphere, generally attaining between 60,000 to 120,000 ft (11 to 23 mi; 18 to 37 km). In 2002, a balloon named BU60-1 attained 53.0 km 6. Cirrocumulus - they are the highest clouds in Earth's atmosphere, located in the mesosphere at altitudes of around 76 to 85 kilometres (47 to 53 mi). They are normally too faint to be seen, and are visible only when illuminated by sunlight from below the horizon while the lower layers of the atmosphere are in the Earth's shadow. 7. The Earth's atmosphere is a thin layer of gases that surrounds the Earth. It composed of 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen, 0.9% argon, 0.03% carbon dioxide, and trace amounts of other gases. This thin gaseous layer insulates the Earth from extreme temperatures; it keeps heat inside the atmosphere and it also blocks the Earth from much of the Sun's incoming ultraviolet radiation. The Earth's atmosphere is about 300 miles (480 km) thick, but most of the atmosphere (about 80%) is within 10 miles (16 km) of the surface of the Earth. There is no exact place where the atmosphere ends; it just gets thinner and thinner, until it merges with outer space. 8. High Earth Orbit. When a satellite reaches exactly 42,164 kilometers from the center of the Earth (about 36,000 kilometers from Earth's surface), it enters a sort of “sweet spot” in which its orbit matches Earth's rotation. 9. Importance of mentioning the height from sea level at the railway stations. Think about it. If you want to know the mean sea level of any place in India(for whatever reason), how do you go about it? You need a reference point. And what better reference point than the one thing which is so well penetrated into the vastness that is India? So the MSL of a station is used as the reference for measuring the MSL for any place near the station. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Subscribe to OneIndia Hindi Channel for latest updates on movies and related videos. Shared from original at the The COMET Program/MetEd channel - https://youtu.be/FuLa6xjwNco Published on Sep 28, 2016 Produced in collaboration between NOAA’s National Geodetic Survey (NGS) and The COMET Program, this video explains NOAA’s VDatum tool and its role in facilitating height transformations between vertical datums including tidal, orthometric, and ellipsoidal datums. It also provides an overview of different types of vertical datums and how they may be used for different applications with a focus on coastal areas and navigation services. Leaders from NOAA as well as other government agencies such as the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) among others, along with GIS users, coastal managers and research scientists will find this 5 minute video helpful for understanding the importance of using consistent vertical datums when working with height information. The maximum height of a siphon is generally assumed to be dependent on barometric pressure—about 10 m at sea level. This limit arises because the pressure in a siphon above the upper reservoir level is below the ambient pressure, and when the height of a siphon approaches 10 m, the pressure at the crown of the siphon falls below the vapour pressure of water causing water to boil breaking the column. After breaking, the columns on either side are supported by differential pressure between ambient and the low-pressure region at the top of the siphon. Here we report an experiment of a siphon operating at sea level at a height of 15 m, well above 10 m. Prior degassing of the water prevented cavitation. This experiment provides conclusive evidence that siphons operate through gravity and molecular cohesion. The height limit of a siphon. A. This animation is created from 3133 images plotting 500 hectopascal geopotential height and sea level pressure for each day from October 1, 2012 to November 23, 2014. The step is 6 hours, so there are four frames per day. Each plot has been downloaded from the meteociel GFS plots archive (http://www.meteociel.fr/modeles/gfse_cartes.php?ech=6&code=0&carte=1&mode=0&archive=1) (data from ncep), using an ad-hoc python script made by me.

This animation shows the changes in sea level height with respect to the mean sea surface over a period of four years and three months. It was created using TOPEX altimeter data from the TOPEX/Poseidon satellite mission. Clearly visible is the El Niño effect in the Pacific Ocean, during which the sea level height in front of the South American continent increases. Color coding of sea level height with respect to mean sea surface: [red: +50 cm, blue: -50 cm]. Authors in alphabetical order: J. Fernandez, W. Liang, C. Walter, Y. Wang. This work was part of a project for a lecture by Dr. T. Gruber, Earth Oriented Space Science and Technology, Technical University Munich.

hiii friends, We travel all the way to the railways .. Therefore, the railway station is also known. In this way some things in the railway station become commonplace for us. One of the common things is the railway board, which includes the name of the station With its height from sea level, it is also written. Even then, on this simple thing, you have ever thought that, after all, what is the purpose of this. Do you know the reason behind it? If you do not know, then know today. Mean sea level For this, first of all, you must know the meaning of height from sea level. Dar Sir scientists need to point out a similar height of the entire world, which is always the same thing. For this, scientists did not find any other option other than the sea. Because seawater always remains the same. Significantly, it is also used in civil engineering. Hence the height of the sea level is written Often you must have seen that at both ends of the railway station, the height is written from the sea level with the name of the station on the board. Let us know that this information is written not for us and yourself but especially for the driver and guard of the train. Actually, this is done because, accordingly, the driver of the train should be able to control the speed of the train. Just as if a train is going 200 meters above the height of sea level 300 meters above sea level, this board By looking at the driver, he realizes how much he has to pay speed to the train engine. Just assuming this as the basis, the engineer at the railway station refers to the elevation from the sea level on the main board of the station. The station which is located on both ends of the platform. It does not happen at all stations. It often happens at stations where the trains have to travel upstream. In this way, with the help of the Railway Sign Board, the train helps in the proper operation of the train. Along with this, electric wires on the train can also help to give a uniform height. So, the next time you are traveling to the railway and go to the railway station, then pay attention to this board.

15 years of sea surface height anomaly (in mm) from merged TOPEX/Poseidon and Jason-1 datasets ranging from january 1993 to december 2007. Note the persistent structures like the western boundary currents (Kuroshio, Gulf, Brazil-Malvinas confluence, East-Australian) and the Antarctic Circumpolar Current. Look at the great oceanic gyres. See the discrete seasonal change between the northern and the southern hemispheres. Watch the massive effect of the 1997 El Niño and 1998 La Niña over the surface height. Note especially the westward propagating slow Rossby waves and the faster reflected Kelvin waves, object of my study. Finally if you look carefully, notice how the sea surface tends to become more and more red over the years, which means the ocean level is rising. Music 'Remember The Name' courtesy of Inki

This animation shows the progression of anomalous sea level heights (SLH) during the 2015-16 El Niño event. Higher than normal SLH's develop over the equatorial tropical eastern Pacific, corresponding to the area if higher sea surface temperatures. These higher heights correspond to a deeper thermocline (depth above which temperatures are more uniform) and thicker layer of warmer water which expands thus creating higher sea levels. East-west movement seen within this large region of warm water is an indication of large-scale oceanic Rossby and Kelvin waves. Many smaller scale features such as oceanic eddies are also seen in this animation. (Credit: NOAA/ESRL Physical Sciences Division) http://www.esrl.noaa.gov/psd/

The393 Babusar Pass is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 4.173m (13,691ft) above the sea level. The pass is the highest point in the Kaghan Valley, Pakistan. The pass connects the Kaghan Valley via the Thak Nala with Chilas on the Karakoram Highway. It’s one of the famous hairpinned roads in the world. From the middle of July up to the end of September the road beyond Naran is open right up to Babusar Pass. However, movement is restricted during the monsoon and winter seasons, but it can be closed anytime when the access is not cleared of snow. The Kaghan Valley is at its best during summer (months ranging from May to September). In May the maximum temperature is 11 C (52 F) and the minimum temperature is 3 C (37 F). The road to the summit was recently asphalted.
