Advanced Facebook Audience Targeting - Pro Tip: How To Narrow Your Audience In Facebook Advertising

Struggling to find the right Facebook audiences that deliver leads and sales through Facebook advertising? If you aren't using this tool, your audiences may be too broad and you may be wasting your ad budget. When your Facebook ads are converting at the level that you want, there are only two potential problems that you're facing. First, you have the wrong audience and usually that's from targeting too broad of an audience. Second, your ad copy / messaging / offer does not resonate with your audience. In this video we are going to look at the "Narrow Your Facebook Audience" tool that is designed to help you drill down deeper into broad audiences on Facebook so you can identify the segments that contain your buyers. Generally, this is accomplished by combining purchase related interests and emotional related interests to find the overlap of people who have made certain purchases based on certain emotional desires and motivations with their Facebook interests. If this sounds a little abstract… That's okay. After all this is an advanced Facebook advertising training video. Now, before you get into this tool… You should have your specific Facebook interests researched already. If you don't have a list of interests that represent your customer avatar, you need to go to the Facebook audience insights tool first to research those interests. Here is my video that shows you how to use the Facebook audience insights tool to find the most relevant interests to your target market: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1g17t182OgA In this video, we look at three specific examples to help you understand both the theory and the practice of using this "narrow your audience" tool. First, we look at how you can use Facebook to advertise your crowdfunding offer on kick starter, indiegogo, etc. Focusing on people who have a high likelihood of liking your product and who like to use crowdfunding websites. The overlap between crowdfunding fans and niche specific product fans hyperfocus is your Facebook advertising to the segment of your audience that has the highest likelihood to convert for you. Second, we look at and artist who creates beautiful artwork focused on sports related and pop culture related celebrities. For this example, we look at how he can not only identify the fans of the celebrities depicted in his artwork, but we can find the ones who also like artists with a similar style… We even go one layer deeper to find the segment of this audience who also likes the high and auction houses that are known to sell fine art. When you know that your Facebook audience is full of people who like a specific person in your art, an artist who uses a similar style, and a high-end fine art auction house, your likelihood of selling fine art of a celebrity they like goes up massively. Finally, we look at how you can use Facebook advertising to target an audience of people in New York who have a high likelihood of enjoying a vegan recipe and meal box delivery, similar to Blue Apron or Hello Fresh. In this third example combining the lifestyle choice of veganism with the purchasing behavior of blue apron and adding a layer of geo-targeting through Facebook's ads, you are left with a surprisingly large audience of Facebook users who would have a high likelihood of being interested in this kind of a product. This really covers in-depth the process of narrowing your Facebook audience to hyper-target your advertisement to the segment of Facebook users most interested in your product. Online content marketers often struggle to define their target market, or simply set their sights too broadly. Your content and products might appeal to a large group of people, but it doesn't make sense to try to market to everyone. If you market to everyone, you market to no one. Forget trying to appeal to the masses. Pick a target audience, or avatar, and focus on knowing who that target audience is. Your avatar represents a whole group of people that you identified as target audience. When you communicate with your target audience, you always talk to your avatar. This means you always communicate in first person, like you are talking only to your avatar. This way they feel more connected to you. All the content you create online should be designed around your avatar. Your content should speak directly to your avatar, which makes it the most valuable marketing tool for your online business. So, It’s well worth the effort to find out: who they are what books they buy and why they buy what they do And after the work we did in part one of this series, it may seem like the hard part is done. In part 1, we tackled the first step in defining your target audience: identifying who it is you wish to reach or serve. We asked some specific questions, and I shared ways that you could find the answers to these questions to create a detailed and specific persona of your ideal reader. However, we’ve only just scratched the surface. To recap, let's have a quick look at the 4-parts of the system to define and attract your target audience: Step 1: IDENTIFY, where we define exactly who it is that you are trying to reach. Step 2: UNDERSTAND, where we dive deep into the needs, wants and desires of your ideal readers. Step 3: DIFFERENTIATE, where we discover and develop what only you can offer. Step 4: ENGAGE, where I'll show you how to develop content that resonates with your ideal readers, building trust and community. In this section, part 2, we will learn ways to develop a true understanding of the needs, wants and desires or your readers. It’s not enough to just simply describe your readers: their age, gender, interests, lifestyle and so on. You need to be able to empathize effectively with your audience – identify with the feelings, the thoughts or the attitudes of your readers. This requires much deeper reader insight. Finally, we look at trends in diet patterns, from the New Year's bump to the long-term patterns in lifestyle diets vs. diet fads. HALCALI (ハルカリ, Harukari?) (a portmanteau of the names Halca (ハルカ, Halca?) and Yucali (ユカリ, Yucali?)) is a Japanese Hip-hop duo consisting of members Halca (born April 21, 1988) and Yucali (born July 18, 1987) from Meguro, Tokyo. They were signed to Oshare Track Factory on July 26, 2002 when lead singers Halca and Yucali, now both graduates from Meguro, attended an audition for "female rappers" held by the group Rip Slyme,[1][2] and were chosen out of several applicants as the singers for the band.[3][4] Their first single, "Tandem" which was released on January 8, 2003 was marketed on several Japanese television networks and MTV at the time of its release and entered into the Oricon Charts at position 19.[5][6] HALCALI made their American debut in May 2008 as the musical guests of honor at at the Chicago-area Japanese culture, manga and anime convention Anime Central.[7][8] They performed again in America at Central Park, New York City on June 1, 2008 as part of a Japan Day Festival as part of the Yōkoso Japan tourism campaign.[9][10] The time between the release of their first single to that of their debut album HALCALI moved away from mainstream J-pop and toward a style combining pop and rap, with what can be called an airy, self-parody "bubblegum" rap in the vein of earlier groups such as East End X Yuri. This was evident in their second and third singles, "Electric Sensei" (エレクトリック先生, "Electric Sensei"?) and "Giri Giri Surf Rider" (ギリギリ・サーフライダー, "Giri Giri Surf Rider"?) released in mid-2003. Both singles focused on rap rather than pop. The latter song attracted attention from Western audiences when it appeared on Adam and Joe Go Tokyo. HALCALI Bacon (ハルカリベーコン, HALCALI Bacon?) had tracks featuring guest singers in Japanese pop, who provided vocals as well as song collaborations. The album peaked at #5 on the Oricon charts, becoming the first album by a female hip-hop artist to enter the top ten. It remained on the charts for a total of twenty weeks. "Tandem" was such a successful hit, that the Latin American MTV featured this song in some spots. Ongaku no Susume (音楽ノススメ, Recommended Music?) shows a greater variety of musical styles than the group's first album. A British magazine said in a review of Ongaku no Susume that the album was "something which De La Soul wished it could be." However, there was criticism that HALCALI's albums were being produced in an attempt to try and market towards their target audience.[citation needed] Released on July 18, 2007, Cyborg Oretachi (サイボーグ俺達, We, the Cyborgs?) is HALCALI's first major label album, third original album, and fourth album release overall. The first press limited edition came with a bonus DVD. This is HALCALI's first album to be released in both CD only, and CD+DVD formats. This album was originally rumoured to be titled Drive My Dreams, however the title was changed when official release information became available through their website. This single continued to show the fluctuation between rap and J-pop. After the release of "Strawberry Chips", HALCALI's visual style shifted, along with the layout and lyrical style of their songs. This change in style is attributed to HALCALI's coming-of-age, however it also represents the changing of fads that occurred in Japanese teens at the time and was necessary to retain their fanbase.[citation needed] Their sixth single, "Baby Blue!", was an instant cult hit. The album art and video featured the character HANPANDA, a trend by Japanese artist Nagi Noda, which has since become popular. Now lists on Twitter are a fantastic way , not only to organize the people you are following in to groups Local businesses, media, whatever your interests you can monitor the activity in that group. But they are a fantastic way to find new contacts that are relevant to you. You find other people's public lists and you follow those relevant accounts. OK, Twitter have updated the interface so as this post here says it's now hidden away in the menu options. I wanted to rerecord the videos I've done previously about building an audience with lists so that you see how it works in the new interface. Here we go. So to demonstrate I'm logged in as Dysart Park Grantham, a community event that holds annual fundraisers in the park, a family event etc. Their interest would be to use lists to find other local community members , local media or local businesses. So let me show you how to access lists with the new interface. So here we are on the home page so we just click on the text dysart park grantham there and that will take you through to this view , tweets, following, followers, favourites This was previously vertical you may recall that. OK but where's lists - well it's actually here under more. Not sure why there's only one menu item anyway. But this should look familiar to anyone who has used it before, subscribe to and member of. Now subscribed to is where you've created a list yourself using this create new list button , all of these ones with the picture are lists that I created for this account. Now , when you see a different icon that means - subscribed to , this account has subscribed to lists created by other users. That means when you go to the particular page - lets go to this journalism account. You would do the same thing you would click on more, click on lists , find one of the lists that you are interested in , in this case click on this one and then just click subscribe. I now go back to the homepage and I go back to the text, and now I click on lists. what you'll see is that list I've just subscribed to appear, just below the ones that are created by this account. So there it is. Any list you go to you click on it and you can see the members and how many people are also subscribed to it and all the current tweets. So it's a great way to filter your view of what's happening in journalism if that's your interest area. OK so let's run through how we find new potential lists to follow people within those lists. So it's not just about what lists have been created by an account, it's what lists they are a member of. More frequently, more commonly they won't have created their own lists but they will have been added, If they have been on twitter for some time and quite active, to a number of lists. So this account itself has been added to quite a number of lists. Lincolnshire East Midlands community. So a good idea would be to follow other members of that list that you are not already following. So you just go to members, and you follow any accounts that you are not yet connected with. Now, they won't all follow you back but the chances are when you follow 100 accounts , typically 30% will follow back. Now they are all going to be relevant accounts because it's a list that you've found that's relevant to you. So another list that would be relevant to this particular account would be a list of media contacts. So i'm just going to do a search for a local paper - the Grantham Journal. And I look at the people results to find that. OK so I can click on that - so I could follow the acccount, what you want to do again is click on the text Grantham Journal , click on more and lists and usefully they have got one list of Journal members. It's really going to be the powerful effect to see the member of -look at all of these lists. So Local press, Grantham community, Lincolnshire News, so you could go further afield with media , Lincolnshire organizations with a reach within Lincolnshire and beyond - any of those would be great. to zoom in on , follow the members of the list and now that the audience you are building is a quality audience that's relevant to you.
