B-Side LED; disruptive technologies in product design

01:49
Like a bollard, its main function is to sign or delimit an area. The concept is based on the idea that the object itself “collects” the light it generates, thereby promoting the idea of the product as an element of signage. LED enables us to create a lightweight design adapted to the function, ensuring both aesthetic and functional value.

Lighting design: Aronson Lighting Design and RTLD Lighting Design Product: VarioLED™ Flex VENUS White TV IP67 by LED Linear LED Linear Partner: Lirad-Steinitz Customer: Broadcom Offices Location: Yakum, Israel Video edited by Yoni Gofer For the offices of Broadcom in Yakum, Israel Lighting Designer Eran Aronson of Aronson Lighting Design and RTLD Lighting Design created a special installation with 31 VENUS luminaires. Each luminaire was individually bent on site by him. Therefore, no luminaire is like the other, and all differ in their bends and hanging technique. Overall, the project produced 31 extraordinary luminaires made of 775 meters of flexible VarioLED™ Flex VENUS, 775 meters of aluminum profile, 775 meters transparent shrink tubing, 775 specially designed connectors, 775 silicone-coated steel cables, 775 ceiling terminals and all that, in more than 775 hours of planning, designing and installing. Eran Aronson captured this exciting process in a video, which was produced in collaboration with Yoni Gofer. Enjoy watching "Light Sketch"!

Robert Brunner: What All Great Design Companies Know

24:58
About this presentation What’s the secret to becoming a legendary design company like Apple or BMW? In this 99U talk, designer Robert Brunner deconstructs his creative process revealing the stories behind products like Beats by Dre headphones and the Polaroid Cube. First, he says, recognize that a brand belongs to your customers. “You don’t own your brand. A brand isn’t a logo or packaging,” he says. “It’s a gut feeling. And when two people have the same gut feeling, you have a brand.” Secondly, most people view design as a part of the production chain, you get requirements in and out comes a product. But design is the chain, and for the best products it permeates every step. “It should be a topic of conversation constantly,” he says. “Thats how you make great stuff.” Watch more videos here: http://www.99u.com/videos About Robert Brunner Robert Brunner founded San Francisco-based design studio Ammunition in 2007 to communicate ideas through products, brands, and their surrounding experiences. His work as an industrial designer has spawned numerous brand-defining designs over the past three decades. Prior to founding Ammunition, Robert was a partner at Pentagram and led strategic brand consulting and industrial design programs for Fortune 500 companies. Previously, he was the Director of Industrial Design for Apple, where he established its pioneering internal corporate design organization, Apple IDg. Before joining Apple, Robert co-founded design consultancy Lunar. Named one of Fast Company’s “Most Creative People in Business,” Robert’s work is included in the permanent design collections of the MoMA in both New York and San Francisco. He is the co-author of the book Do You Matter? How Great Design Will Make People Love Your Company. Inspired by circuit boards of all things, I set out on a journey of try and fail, but I was satisfied with the result. I've never used an Arduino before, and I haven't worked much with electronics or woodwork in the past, but I learned a lot along the way. It was a fun crafting project, and I hope you liked it too! Laser LED Sign - Part #1 - Converting a Concept/Prototype into Product

16:07
#prototype #product #concept In this video series I am going to give you a "look inside my brain" on how I go about taking a concept or proto-type I have and attempt to make a "product" out of it... so what product? A few months ago I built my kids some custom LED lit acrylic signs that I built some custom Tiny85 boards for - that eventually led to me design my TinyDev board. I have been asked by a few friends where they can buy them from or if I could make some for their kids, and the though of manually assembling the bases has put me off as there are just too many steps involved and too many fail and frustration points. Lets fix that! Bringing Simplicity to Complexity: How to Design at Scale | Jonah Jones | TEDxGlasgow

11:48
The Google Maps navigation and cartography teams have an overwhelmingly complex task: to create a universal experience that helps people navigate their world, no matter where in the world they are. How do you create an experience that works for well-established road grids in New York City and dirt roads in rural India? The Facebook sharing team also have an overwhelmingly complex task: to support the diverse needs of a quarter of the world’s population. How do you build tools that work just as well for a young woman in Japan as they do for an elderly man in rural France? Jonah Jones, lead designer of both products, explains what these problems had in common. The lessons from how the Google and Facebook teams went about solving them can apply to any design process, at any scale, and have far-reaching implications. Jonah Jones is a product designer who has had the privilege to design for two of the top five most used apps in the world today. He currently manages design teams across Facebook, and previously at Google. At Facebook, Jonah has led a number of diverse product design teams. From building tools to help nearly two billion people share on Facebook, through the launch of tools to connect the workplace, to creating solutions to help publishers to thrive, his unique design experience spans across the full spectrum of consumer and business domains. Prior to Facebook, Jonah worked at Google for 8 years in Mountain View, Sydney, and Zurich. He managed the design team for Google Maps, leading the biggest redesign in the company’s history. He has a passion for combining his love for design, technology, film, gaming, and travel to create innovative and delightful design solutions. This passion has led to Jonah being regularly asked to speak at events across the globe. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx

The Role Of Women In Technology Product Design

05:01
What role do women play in the design of leading technology products and services? That's a tricky question. It's no secret that women are under-represented in the executive ranks and board rooms of the world's technology companies. But how do they fare when it comes to tech product design? KPCB General Partner John Doerr led a discussion on this topic with four high-profile entrepreneurs during a panel at the Aspen Ideas Festival on June 30. The Kleiner Perkins partner led the discussion with Flipboard co-founder & CEO Mike McCue, Nest founder & CEO Tony Fadell, Path co-founder & CEO Dave Morin and product designer Yves Behar. Sure, the panelists were all men -- but they had some encouraging things to say about the prospects for women aspiring to create ground-breaking technology products.

Being awarded the “Red Dot: Design Team of the Year” title is a very special honour: No designer and no company can apply for this unique tribute. It is a single distinction which literally pokes out of all awards and is the highest appreciation of a sustainable design policy. Since as early as 1988, the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen has annually awarded a prize in the Red Dot Award: Product Design to a selected team that has distinguished itself at the highest level through its continuously innovative design achievements. Blackmagic Design is the first Red Dot: Design Team of the Year from Australia. The company has rapidly grown over the last decade to become one of the world’s leading innovators and manufacturers of creative video technology. Dynamically emerging from a tech start-up to become a global industry leader, they produce an end-to-end suite of hardware and software products used in films, television programme, advertisements and news broadcasts around the world. Their cameras and software are used on many acclaimed Hollywood films including The Martian, Mad Max: Fury Road, Furious 7 and Avatar. Blackmagic’s driving philosophy is to foster true creativity by making the highest quality video affordable for everyone. The design team combines this approach with its dedication to innovation, quality and rapid product development, and in this way revolutionises the industry. Digital Product Design - Good Questions, Great Products

Digital Product Design NYC Meetup - Lifion, by ADP NYC - Nov 15 2016 - Good Questions, Great Products https://www.meetup.com/NYC-Digital-Product-Design/events/234649928// Most people say great products start with great ideas. But Eli sees it differently. Instead, great products start with asking the right questions. This talk looks at the early stages of the product lifecycle through the lens of those important and often overlooked questions. These early stages include: • Strategy & Introspection, where we ask "Who are we? What's our purpose?" to better understand a product team's culture and the types of products that will resonate internally • User Research, where we ask "Who's our audience? What do they really want in a product?" to develop user empathy and discover potential product directions • Product Direction, where we ask: "What problem should we solve? Why is it worth solving?" to define and justify scope based on the value they create, rather than the features they include The talk covers the high-level macro-questions, why they're so important, and breaks them down into relevant component questions. You'll also leave with a few hacks / exercises to help you ask them most effectively. PRESENTER Eli Holder is product researcher, maker, and founder. He's passionate about products that help people better understand each other and themselves. Brightgreen DR700 retrofit LED - product animation

00:58
With household electricity prices predicted to rise 14% next year, there's never been a better time to replace all those power-munching halogens around the home. By switching to Brightgreen's award--winning DR700 LED downlight, you can save a massive 80% on your lighting costs. The Brightgreen DR700 gives you all the brightness of a 50watt halogen (720 lumens) on just 10.5 watts. That adds up to an incredibly energy efficient 69 lumens for every watt, compared to just 40 for a standard LED. In fact the DR700 LED downlight is so efficient, it pays for itself in as little as 9 months if used 8 hours a day. You can work out your own savings and payback period using the retrofit calculator at brightgreen.com, or by downloading the Brightgreen app. It's even better value if you live in New South Wales or Victoria, as you'll be entitled to financial incentives for buying the DR700 under the VEET and ESS government energy efficiency schemes. (Visit our online store locator to find your nearest accredited installer.) The DR700 lasts an amazing 70,000 hours (using the IES LM-80 standard for calculating LED product life), equal to about 30 years with standard household use. And for even more peace of mind, it's covered by a 3-year warranty. The DR700 is easy to install as well as durable, dimmable and compatible with most drivers. Winner of the Premier's Recognition Award and Product or Services category, Premier's Sustainability Awards 2012 and recipient of a Good Design™ mark from Good Design Australia.

Designing the rest of your life | Dave Evans | TEDxSanFranciscoSalon

19:00
How can design can help us create a life that is both meaningful and fulfilling, regardless of who or where we are, what we do or have done for a living, or how young or old we are. DAVE is adjunct Lecturer, product design program director at Stanford and co-founder of Electronic Arts. From saving the seals to solving the energy crisis, from imagining the first computer mice to redefining software — Dave’s been on a mission, including helping others to find theirs. Starting at Stanford with dreams of following Jacques Cousteau as a marine biologist, Dave shifted to mechanical engineering with an eye on the energy problem. So while en route to biomedical engineering, Dave accepted an invitation to work for Apple, where he led product marketing for the mouse team and introduced laser printing to the masses. When Dave’s boss at Apple left to start Electronic Arts, Dave joined as the company’s first VP of Talent, dedicated to making “software worthy of the minds that use it.” Dave holds a BS and MS in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford and a graduate diploma in Contemplative Spirituality from San Francisco Theological Seminary.
