What makes a truly great logo

04:45
Here's how a simple mark ends up meaning something big as a great logo. Joe Posner, and Michael Bierut (designer of the Hillary Clinton logo) explain. For more from Michael Bierut on graphic design, check out his book "How to use graphic design to sell things, explain things, make things look better, make people laugh, cry, and (every once in a while) change the world": http://www.amazon.com/How-Michael-Bierut/dp/0062413902 Subscribe to our channel! http://goo.gl/0bsAjO About once a month, there's a new logo to fight about on the internet. The biggest one in recent memory was the highly controversial Hillary Clinton logo, which did not escape scrutiny from Vox.com either. But as a designer/filmmaker, something about these repeated discussions struck me as missing the point on what makes logos tick. It often has little to do with the subjective musings. So I called up Michael Bierut, the designer of that Hillary Clinton logo and countless others. He sat down with me and helped explain the elements of a great logo in the video above. Vox.com is a news website that helps you cut through the noise and understand what's really driving the events in the headlines. How To Find Logo Design Ideas

12:51
Graphic Design Resources: https://goo.gl/kUXMpU How To Find Logo Design Ideas: Hello everyone, welcome back, many of you asked me, how to find logo design ideas, it was really a hard question to answer, because I can’t teach you creativity, but there is some methods that help you get creative and come up with great logo design concepts. So today, I am going to walk you through the process of designing a logo, but I will concentrate on the thinking behind the design part. Generating Logo Design Ideas: In order to generate great logo design ideas, you have to put in the time into the thinking behind the design, it’s a whole process, if you follow it, you will be in good position to come up with good ideas, that works as great solution for the client’s problem. Creative Brief: To start the thinking process, you have to collect every information needed of your client, and this can easily done by creating a creative brief, It’s a simple document you send to your client, that ask thoughtful questions about the client and his business, in order to gather specific information about the project, and to define your client’s expectations. Analyze brief, discover & research business competitors and target audience. Mindmapping: After sending the creative brief documentto the client, he will respond with the information needed. The company name is Royal Veggies Transport. The client wanted something elegant and classy, at the same time the logo needs to reflect the veggies aspect. To achieve that, we will use the logo’s main keywords to extract some unexpected ideas, that is what we call mind mapping. Mind mapping is the creation of a visual representation of the words related to the main topic, then finding other associations to these words, in order to generate creative logo ideas. Words Association: After The mind mapping phase, I make separated lists, each main word with its associations. then I take off the words that I find inconvenient to the project, then I make some combinations of three words, one word from each list, so I can get some unexpected ideas for the logo . Sketching Saul Bass said, Design is thinking made visual. So after all the thinking and the research process it’s time transform that into a visual. So, these are the combinations of the word that I extracted from the Mind Mapping and the word Associations. To attend the right solution for your logo, you have to execute all the combinations, then you filter them and the stronger survive. I will walk you through the execution of one combination, which is, Carrot, Crown, Wings. Putting in mind all the information that I collected before, I will start by sketching. It doesn’t require being precise when sketching, it’s only about capturing the essence of the idea. In fact, anyone can draw, as I showed you before in the mood board I collected some Images, I will use it as reference, if you don’t know how to draw a carrot, look at a photo of a carrot, and try to do the same thing with simpler form. The Best Logos Ever Designed Are Simple Not Interesting & Not Overworked

05:30
Why Designers Should Strive To Make Designs Simpler vs. More "Interesting". Make your logo simpler, more legible and timeless vs. trying to be clever. The best logos in the world are often the simplest: Nike, Apple, Google, B&O, Levi's, FedEx, CBS, UPS, Warner, Girl Scouts, ABC, United Airlines, American Airlines, and IBM to name a few. They often use very common typefaces like Helvetica or Futura and refrain from over embellishment. Still don't believe us? Look at some of the most expensive luxury brands and study their logo. In his newest book, Blair Enns talks about the value of logo design isn't based on hours worked, or even the perceived quality of the design. To illustrate the point, he states, the Nike logo was designed for $100 while the Pepsi logo was $1 million. Is the million dollar logo better than the $100 logo? Is it worth 100,000 times more? Designers often mistake the effort or cleverness of a logo as the hallmark of value. It is not. Furthermore, Michael Bierut says too much is made of a logo. A logo is only a very small aspect of the brand. It's not the whole story just the opening paragraph of a long story. 15 MOST Luxurious Fashion Brands

11:15
From Oscar de la Renta to Chanel, here are some of the most lavish and prestigious fashion brands. Subscribe to Hindered Thoughts http://goo.gl/d3U3RP 6. Chanel The high fashion wear company was introduced to the world back in 1909 by none other than Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel, otherwise known as “Coco Chanel.” This is where the brand gets its inspiration for the famously recognizable logo that is two interlocking C’s. The company specializes in creating haute couture for its wealthy clients but also for fashion models like Naomi Campbell, who once modeled for them, and actresses Marilyn Monroe, Keira Knightley, and Nicole Kidman. One of their most famous products is the perfume No. 5 de Chanel, along with the Chanel Suit. Today, Chanel is valued at being $6.8 billion dollars. An interesting fact to note is that Karl Lagerfeld, the creative director behind Fendi, happens to be the creative director for Chanel as well. 5. Prada Founded back in 1913 by Mario Prada, this fashion brand actually started out by manufacturing leather bags and trunks. It would then evolve into selling everything from clothing to perfume and even a brief stint of LG Prada cell phones. Though the brand may have broadened its inventory, it still spends the majority of its focus creating some of the world’s most exclusive handbags that only the rich and famous can possibly hope to afford. Mario Prada believed that women should not be involved in business so he excluded his own family members from getting involved. In a fantastic twist of irony, his son did not care to run the business so his daughter Luisa Prada took over as his successor and is now currently being run by her daughter Miuccia. 4. House of Versace The fashion empire that is the House of Versace all started with fashion designer Gianni Versace back in 1978. He created a brand that has been synonymous with elegance and simply oozes high fashion. His glamorous gowns have gone on to make a name for himself as a respected designer. Like the case of the famous black dress held with gold safety pins that actress Elizabeth Hurley wore back in 1994 to the premiere of Four Weddings and A Funeral. Sadly, Versace’s life was cut short in 1997 on the steps of his Miami mansion when he became the fifth and final victim of Andrew Cunanan. The tragic event will be the story behind American Crime Story’s season 2 titled: The Assassination of Gianni Versace. After his death, his sister Donatella became the new Artistic Director and has established a $5.5 billion company her brother would be proud of. 3. Gucci Started in 1921 by a Mr. Guccio Gucci, the company was originally dabbing in leather goods. It wasn’t until 19 years later when his son Aldo would take the company from being a one-stop shop into the fashion powerhouse that it’s now known for being. It’s Aldo that would usher in the era of the brand’s iconic “Bamboo Bag” and its “ready to wear segments.” In the 90’s, the company decided to bring American Fashion designer Tom Ford to revamp their women’s wear. He ended up helping launch the brand to where it is today. The fashion brand houses other well-known designers in its collections such as Alexander McQueen, Stella McCartney, and Yves Saint Laurent. If you’re in the market to do some shopping at this $12.4 billion brand, expect to spend at least $2,000. 2. Louis Vuitton This may come as a shock but the famous fashion brand has been around longer than you might have thought. Formed 163 years ago in 1854, a young man by the name of Louis Vuitton started out as an apprentice for a box-maker. Vuitton ended up becoming a well-known crafter of luxury trunks and opened up his own shop in Paris. He then ended up becoming the personal box-maker of Napoleon III’s wife, Empress Eugenie de Montijo. Fast forward years later and the company is now worth $28.1 billion with a generated revenue of $10.1 billion. Today, Louis Vuitton doesn’t make just trunks but designer handbags and clothing that can be spotted on the most famous of A-listers. 1. Balenciaga The beginning of Balenciaga’s reign began back in 1919 when it was established by its founder of the same name, Cristóbal Balenciaga. As a young child, Balenciaga became an apprentice to a tailor in his hometown of Getaria, Spain and would eventually get his formal training in Madrid. He would go on to create the House of Balenciaga and skyrocketed to success thanks to his artistic genius. He was hailed as the undisputed “ King of Fashion” and was highly respected among his peers which included the likes of Coco Chanel, Christian Dior, and Pierre Balmain. Balenciaga even helped train the likes of high-fashion designers Oscar de la Renta and Hubert Givenchy to name a few.

Hermes | Fashion Designers

02:01
Watch more Fashion Designers and Fashion Brands videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/500145-Hermes-Fashion-Designers The Hermes Company was founded by Thierry Hermes in 1837 in Paris as a supplier of saddles and harnesses to a very upscale clientele. His illustrious clients included royalty and sportsmen and sporting royals. Especially people like Napoleon the Third and his very fashionable wife, the Empress Eugenie. By 1879, Hermes was in business at its present location on the prestigious Faubourg Saint-Honore in Paris. The company has had a long list of illustrious clients, including The Duke of Windsor in the 20th century. Today, Hermes maintains a very exclusive clientele. People can get their purchases customized, made to order with fine leathers and even precious metals. Even though the riding gear makes up a very small part of their business now, the equestrian origins of Hermes survive in a lot of their design details. While the riding gear is really just a small part of the Hermes business, the equestrian focus still shows up in a lot of the design details that Hermes is known for. For example, their logo shows a horse drawn carriage. They have equestrian details on a lot of their bags. There scarves often show horse details or riding gear. Their classic (?) refers to a horse drawn coach. It was introduced in 1961. An, Amazon is the French word for a horsewoman. In particular, a skilled horsewoman. The printed silk ties and scarves from Hermes are status symbols. The printed scarfs were first introduced in 1937 with the French name carre, which just means a square. And, ties were introduced in the late 40s. Bringing these beautiful silk objects into their product line, in addition to the fine leathers, adds another choice for their discerning clientele.

Miuccia Prada | Fashion Designers

02:13
Watch more Fashion Designers and Fashion Brands videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/500175-Miuccia-Prada-Fashion-Designers Miuccia Prada, who currently runs the company, is the granddaughter of the founder Mario Prada. Miuccia inherited the family business in 1978. Although she's been really successful as a fashion designer and as a business woman, Miuccia Prada initially resisted joining the family business. She studied political science and actually trained as a mime after college. With her husband Patrizio Bertelli she's really expanded the focus of the Prada business. After taking the reigns at Prada, Miuccia introduced one of the most successful designs, black tote bags and backpacks made out of nylon decorated only with this small triangular Prada logo. So simple but so recognizable. The first ready to wear fashion collection was launched in 1989 and the first men's wear collection debuted in 1993. That same year she also introduced Miu Miu, the secondary line that's based on her nickname. In 1993 Prada won an award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America, their International Award for Excellence in Design. One of the key elements in the Prada brand has been their association and their affinity with art and in initiating art projects, Miuccia Prada and Patrizio Bertelli have really consolidated Prada's position as a conceptual brand. They've commission avant-garde artists to build their stores and they did an interesting sculpture installation in Marfa, Texas and they have a foundation that supports projects in contemporary art. So people look to Prada for conceptual fashion. A lot of Miuccia Prada's designs at first seem odd or sometimes even ugly but they're quickly adapted and become really coveted and have influenced main stream fashion.

Fashion Brand Failure: #1 Mistake Failed Fashion Designers Make & How to Avoid It

16:27
53% of Fashion Businesses fail within the first 4 years, according to Entrepreneur Magazine. In this video I cover 2 Topics: 1. The trap or the reason majority of first-time fashion designers tell themselves when they want to be in the fashion business. 2. A simple exercise that you as a future fashion designer must you do minimize your risk so you don’t add to clothing line failure rate and increase your chances of success. There are a number of reasons why clothing brands fail but in my experience, the #1 reason I have seen, especially for a new fashion designer is that they do not realize what is involved in running a fashion business. They often confuse their passion for fashion with fashion business. When you want to start a clothing business, its important understand that the goal of the fashion business is to make money. This tutorial lists how to find that difference and what are the costs involved in starting a fashion business that will cut in to a fashion designer's profit margin and could make the difference between a successful & failed fashion designer. ****************** Other videos: ****************** How to start a clothing line under $67? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3JKL3xIc0Oc 8 Ways to Fund Your Clothing Business https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udT54wcRW-c

Burberry | Fashion Designers

03:06
Watch more Fashion Designers and Fashion Brands videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/500139-Burberry-Fashion-Designers Burberry's emergence as a fashion brand is relatively recent. Until 1990's when the brand was kind of revitalized, it was seen as something that was very classic and rugged, but not necessarily fashionable. The brand was founded in 1856 by a man named Thomas Burberry, who ran a small, kind of outdoor outfitting shop in Basingstoke, England. He moved to London where the business really expanded. Burberry popularized the fabric gabardine, which is a very tightly woven fabric, which is really good for outerwear, especially for outerwear for sports. He appealed to a clientele that was really interested in hunting and fishing and lots of other outdoor activities. Burberry grew into having the reputation of being very correct in town, but also very rugged on the playing fields and out in the country. British army officers wore Burberry coats, a style that was known as the Tielocken, during the Boer War in the 1890's. In 1911, Burberry outfitted Roald Amundsen on his South Pole expedition. During World War I the company added epaulets and D rings to their Tielocken coat, and the trench coat was born. After the war, Burberry started to line the trench coats with their distinctive check, and registered the design as a trademark, and it's, of course, become one of the most copied design in fashion. Burberry has received several royal warrants for its products, and the royal warrant is a mark of distinction that you get from the British Royal Family when they like your products. The trench coats are among their most famous products. Humphrey Bogart wore one in Casablanca, Audrey Hepburn wore one in Breakfast at Tiffany's. In the late 1990's, Burberry decided to venture into fashion, to try to change their image from being eternally classic, to being more desirable as a fashion brand. They hired an American fashion executive, Rosemary Bravo, and she brought in an Italian designer, Roberto Menichetti, and he launched the line Prorsum, which is one of the important Burberry lines now. For the first time, Burberry presented runway shows, had ads with well-known models, and the Burberry check moved from the lining of trench coats onto everything from bikinis to clothing for pets. The Prorsum line takes its name from the Latin word that means forward, and it's found on the little banner on the Burberry logo. When Menichetti departed in 2001, Christopher Bailey succeeded him. He had had experience prior to this at Donna Karan and at Gucci, and it's under his direction that the company has really moved forward, with major ad campaigns, lots more fragrances, and very diverse line of products that still conveys classic Burberry, but with a lot more fashion sense.

16 FAMOUS LOGOS WITH A HIDDEN MEANING (That We Never Even Noticed)

06:29
How to design a successful logo? How to build a famous brand for your business? Some of the most well-known logos in the world were purposefully designed to indicate something much more than simple beauty. In fact, it seems that in some cases, every line, curve, and color has meaning behind it. Adidas, Apple, BMW, Coca-Cola, Toyota… We see these famous brands everywhere but never consider what their logos exactly mean. Curious to know the secret? Watch the 16 famous logos with a hidden meaning you've never noticed. #logomeaning #logosecret # Hyundai 0:33 The letter ’Н’ symbolizes two people – a client and a representative of the company – shaking hands. Adidas 0:52 The current logo is three stripes at an angle which together form a triangle. This symbolizes a mountain, which in turn represents the challenges that all sportsmen have to overcome day after day. Apple 1:21 Rob Janoff, the designer who came up with the world-famous Apple company logo, explained his idea in one of his interviews. He bought a bag of apples, placed them in a bowl, and spent time drawing them for a week, trying to break the image down into something simple. Vaio 1:58 The first two letters of the Vaio logo symbolize an analogue wave. The last two are similar to the numbers 1 and 0 — that is, symbols of a digital signal. Amazon 2:14 The orange arrow is similar to a smile because the company wants its customers to be satisfied. The arrow is also stretched between the letters ’A’ and ’Z’, in a hint that the company sells absolutely every product you can imagine. Baskin Robbins 2:40 The pink-colored parts of the "BR" section make up the number 31, which is how many ice cream flavors Baskin Robbins used to famously sell. Toyota 2:56 The logo represents a stylized image of a needle eye with a thread passing through it. This is a hint at the company’s past – they used to produce weaving machines. Continental 3:28 Continental, a famous car tire producer, has a logo in which the first two letters depict a car wheel. Formula 1 3:41 If you look carefully at the white space between the letter ’F’ and the red stripes, you can see the number 1. Pinterest 3:59 On Pinterest, people collect images they like from across the Internet and ’pin’ them to their online boards. That’s why the image of a pin is hidden in the letter P. Beats 4:17 Beats, an audio equipment producer based in the USA, uses a logo in which the letter ’B’ looks like headphones on a person’s head. Toblerone 4:32 The famous chocolate company based in Bern, Switzerland, has a silhouette of a bear in its logo. That's because Bern is sometimes called a city of bears. BMW 4:55 The logo is simply a part of the Bavarian flag, the area of Germany where the company originated. LG 5:18 The logo is a stylized image of a person’s face. According to the company, this represents its aspiration to have human relations with their customers. Evernote 5:34 The corner of the elephant’s ear is folded over in a similar way how people fold the corner of a page to make notes. Coca-Cola 5:57 In the space between the letters ’O’ and ’L’, you can see the Danish flag. It’s purely a coincidence. Nevertheless, Coca-Cola has used this as part of its marketing campaigns in the Scandinavian country. If you’ve enjoyed this video, hit that thumbs up button! Fashion designing is quite a lucrative job and is in heavy demand these days. Whether it is Hollywood or Bollywood, fashion designers are very much needed for preparing bewitching and glamorous outfits for red carpet events, parties and other occasions that involve celebrities. The top countries for studying fashion designing include UK, Japan, United States of America, France and Italy. The fashion industry is very competitive. And in order to secure a good job, it is very important for a student to get enough training. He/she should be a creative person with exemplary artistic skills. Also a course in English, business, maths or sewing can be used as a proper foundation. If you are too ambitious, a simple degree might not suffice. Masters degree and certificate programmes are also available so that you can educate yourself enough to start a prosperous and bright career in fashion designing. There are several careers you can find in this field itself. Some include sketchers, cutters and pattern makers, sewers and fit technicians, head designers, specialty designs and of course the trend researchers. Other career opportunities you can explore in the field of fashion include fashion marketing, journalism, public relations, performing arts, photography, management and merchandising. To become a successful fashion designer, it is very important to get a diploma or degree at first. It might be easy to enrol yourself in a decent university, but it is often difficult to pay the course fees since it isnt inexpensive after all. However, there are a couple of big universities that offer scholarships to students who have talent and are keen enough to show some effort. India has also recognized fashion designing recently. Some of the best institutions that offer this course include National Institute of Fashion Technology (Delhi), Vogue Institute of Fashion Technology (Bangalore), Symbiosis Institute of Design (Pune), and National Institute of Design (Ahmedabad). A few international colleges are also offering certificate and diploma courses on fashion designing. Some of the bright institutions falling under this category are: • University of North Texas (United States of America) • Melbourne School of Fashion (Australia) • University of Westminster (United Kingdom) • Raffles Design Institute (Singapore) • Paris College of Art (France) • Ryerson University School of Fashion (Canada) Once you have graduated from fashion school, prepare a resume with all achievements enlisted in detail. You can always apply to PR firms if you want to work with celebrities or simply try your luck at a fashion production house. Some universities offer job opportunities for students too.
