12 Strange Wedding Traditions That'll Stun You
You won’t believe what people in different countries do before, during, and right after their wedding day following age-old traditions. Here are some crazy rituals for celebrating love from around the world. While most brides-to-be spend arduous hours at the gym, young girls in Mauritania are fattened up in a practice known as “leblouh". For a child to become an adult and ready for marriage in Bali, they have to go through a special tooth filing ceremony. In a tradition that goes back hundreds of years, a Tujia bride starts crying a month before her big day and is later joined by her mother, grandmother, sisters and aunts. To break the spell that would make their prospective husband die early, some women India get married to trees first. In Scotland, friends and family gladly throw molasses, ash, feathers, flour and way more disgusting things all over the bride to scare off evil spirits and bring good luck. The newlyweds in Congo never smile during the wedding ceremony to show how serious their commitment to their future family is. Masai fathers have their own very special way of blessing their newlywed daughters by spitting on their heads and breasts. 5 Wedding Traditions You WON'T Believe Actually Exist! #2
5 Wedding Rituals You WON'T Believe Actually Exist! #2 Description: Hey guys welcome back to Top 5 Supreme, and today were going to talk about weddings. But hey, theyre not just normal weddings. I made a list of the weirdest ones ive ever heard of! There re all types of wedding traditions around the world. and trust me, this is going to leave you in complete shock. So just get nice and comfy because today we re showing you 5 Wedding Traditions You Wont Believe Actually Exist! 1. This is the most insane wedding rituals of Massai nation of Kenya. the women shave their heads out of respect when theyre ready to get married. Before she leaves her village to meet her husband, her father spits a on her bald head and breasts. We all know that Spitting is usually an ugly act but in this case, When they spit it brings fortune and good luck. its a preety disguting way to give someone luck. Thats how they do it in the Massai nation. As she leaves, she is warned not to look back for fear that if she does, she will turn to stone. Now thats just crazy!! 2 In most weddings lots of people cry of joy and happiness, but the Tujia people in China takes this to a whole different level.. 30 days before the wedding, the bride starts to cry for 1 hour evey single. But it doesnt end there..10 days later, she is joined by her mother, and then ten days after that, her grandmother also joins the crying party. This continues until all the females in the family are crying daily for an hour. Thankfully it is not an act of sadness, its an expression of joy and deep love. 3 There is a group of people called the Daur that live in Chinese Inner Mongolia. They finalize the wedding date in a very shocking way. The bride and groom are required to kill a baby chick while holding the knife together. When the chick is killed, everyone looks at the liver. But if the liver doesnt look right, they have to kill another chick. If the liver finally looks good then they are allowed to set a date for their wedding. But If not, they have to repeat the same process until they find a good liver. 4. Its the first time ive ever heard about this. In Fiji not only are men expected to ask their father in law for his daughters hand before marriage, they are also expected to bring him a whale tooth. yeah you heard it right! a whale tooth! Hows that even fair? I mean excluding the black market, the only place in the world to get a whale tooth is in the mouth of the largest mammal on earth, Are you brave enough? Because they also spend most of its time underwater. Nows thats true love! 5. This one almost made me puke! In France, after the wedding ceremony, the friends of the bride and groom collect all of the leftovers, trash, and basically anything else to make a tasty drink. And when i say tasty imean disgusting. This is all thrown in a toilet bowl and then they force the bride and groom to drink out of it. Honestly, If i ever see my self un such situtaion i would runlike theres no tomorrow, just like my friend Forrest Gump.UGHHH!! Daydreams of that special day often replicate a fairytale wedding with proud guests looking on and romance fills the air. For many, weddings are a time to celebrate the union of two people in love. A traditional wedding includes a white gown, bridesmaids, a groom, groomsmen, something borrowed, something blue, cake, flowers, etc. These days, some weddings even feature two brides or two grooms. But overall, they remain traditional. In other parts of the world, weddings are celebrated a bit differently with variations of similar customs. But in some cultures, there are weddings that are just downright bizarre and go against social norms when it comes to tying the knot. While most people are open-minded about what other cultures do for weddings, there are some practices that just plain bizarre no matter where you live on this planet. In this video are ten bizarre weddings in other cultures. If there’s a wedding here that originates from your part of the world, you should look into it and see if the ceremony is being replicated! It’s hard to gauge why a couple would want to have a bizarre wedding, but we can guess. Sometimes it’s just for press coverage while other couples want to have a truly unique experience that’s different from what their friends and family are doing. The quest for being different often has weird results, and it is sometimes hard to see the motive behind the execution. How Traditional Wedding Outfits Look Around The World In western cultures, brides traditionally wear a white dress on their wedding day. Look beyond the west however and you'll find a wide variety of wedding attire according to different countries and cultures. Some brides adorn themselves in colorful garments, others paint their hands and faces in accordance with local traditions, and some hide their faces completely behind layers of jewelry or veils. Not everybody upholds these traditions of course, and many people wear what they want for their Big Day, but this list compiled by Bored Panda provides an interesting insight into the different ways that different people can celebrate the same occasion. 5 Wedding Traditions You WON'T Believe Actually Exist!
5 Wedding Traditions You WON'T Believe Actually Exist! Description: When we talk about weddings, we all know how traditional they tend to be, cutting the cake, The bride in a beatitul white dress, and all these other romantic things. But what we are going to see shows how particular some weddings can be. Believe me you will be tottally shocked once you see these 5 Wedding Traditions You Wont Believe Actually Exist! Lets Roll! 1 Gypsy weddings are full of rituals and traditions. The main and most important is the white handkerchief test, which consists on the same day of the wedding where the bride and another lady are locked in a room to check her virginity. If everything goes as it should, the ceremony starts and time to celebrate. Another thing that fascinated me are the brides' dresses since they are the most expensive and full of dia. Now wait till i tell you that the celebration lasts 3 whole days. ... What a LONNNNG Wedding! 2 In India, they believe that women that are not physically beautiful or born with a simple tooth on their gum, are possessed by ghosts. That is why they have to marry an animal, usually a goat or a dog, to get rid of the evil spirits. After this weird wedding, the woman is free to marry the man she wants. But you are obligated to take those steps , and you will finally enjoy and have a happy marriage. I wasnt aware that I had to marry my dog to scare the bad spirits. What a tradition ... 3 In Sweden, it seems like they celebrate their bachelor party on the same day of the wedding. The fiance has to leave the place where they are celebrating and let all the guests kiss the bride. But the the story doesnt end there, the bride has to do the same exact thing. I do think this is fun for them, but for their friends it probably is. What I can assure is that there are some that dont kiss on the cheeks, there are others that risk other types of kisses. Poor boyfriend, once he gets the kiss fro the brides grandmother 4 Without a doubt for many people. their wedding day will be remembered as one of the happiest of their lives. But in Scotland, it would be the dirtiest. Their family and friends invitted to the wedding, have to throw over them the most unpleasant things you cant even imagine. Such as rotten milk, fish, burnt food, sauces, mud and many other disgusting things. Its said that this tradition takes away the evil spirits of the couple. I think if they can take that, they are ready for anything else. 5 Can you imagine 3 days without using the bathroom? This tradition originally comes from the Tidong tribes, in Asia. It implies that the couple can not use the bathroom for three days before getting married, not even for bathing, which is a basic thing. Their closest relatives make sure they eat as little as possible. because if they cant take it, terrible things can actually happen to them. or atleast thats what they say..all i know is that they will def loose some weight before the wedding Background Music: Kevin MacLeod ~ Shaving Mirror Ending Song: Something New - Joakim Karud : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NCWBuBQyYFQ For Copyright Issues, Please Feel Free to E-mail me: [email protected] _________________________________________________________________ Thank you SOOO Much for watching this video! A Chic Cover-Up Shop now: http://amzn.to/2rIQ1Sl Ever since ancient times, there has been a popular saying in China that the three most delightful moments in one's life come with success in the imperial examination, marriage and the birth of a son. From the Qin (221 BC – 206 BC) to Qing (1644 – 1911) Dynasties, the feudal system dominated over two thousands years. During this period, the importance of getting married was far more than that a person found his better half. For the male side, it determined the prosperity and even the future fame of their family; while for the female side, it meant that parents lost the chance of seeing their daughter for a long time. Thus to choose an ideal partner was vital for both the individual and the family. A set of marriage custom has been passed down and is still in used today. In feudal society, a marriage would be decided not by a young couple's love, but by their parents' desires. Only after a matchmaker's introduction and when parents considered the two family conditions were similar and could be matched, would the marriage procedures go forward. Conditions that should be taken into consideration included wealth and social status. If a boy's family was well-off or an official family, his parents would never permit him to marry a girl from a poor family. Essential to the marriage process were the commonly recognized 'three Letters and six etiquettes'. Woman MatchmakerThe three letters were the betrothal letter, the gift letter with a gifts list and the wedding letter used on the day the groom met his bride at her home. Proposing: when a boy's parents intended to make a match, they would invite a matchmaker to propose with them at the girl's home. It was the custom that the first time matchmaker went as a guest they could not be served tea in order not to 'lighten the marriage'. If the proposal was successful, however, the matchmaker (usually a woman) would be rewarded with profuse gifts and feasts to show the two families' gratitude. Many unmarried young people could not see and were unfamiliar with each other till their wedding day. Birthday Matching: after knowing the girl's full name and birthday, they would ask a fortune teller to predict whether that could match their son's and whether there would be a happy marriage. The Chinese zodiac would be surely taken into consideration. Presenting Betrothal Gifts: if the match was predicted to be auspicious, the matchmaker would take gifts to the girl's parents and tell them that the process could continue. Presenting Wedding Gifts: This was the grandest etiquette of the whole process of engagement. Prolific gifts were presented again to the girl's family, symbolizing respect and kindness towards the girl's family as well as the capability of providing a good life for the girl. electing the Wedding Date: the boy's family asked the fortune-teller to choose a date according to the astrological book when it would be proper and propitious to hold the wedding ceremony. Wedding Ceremony: the wedding ceremony began with the groom and his party meeting the bride in her home. Before this day the bride's dowry would have been sent to the boy's house. The dowry represented her social status and wealth, and would be displayed at the boy's house. The most common dowries included scissors like two butterflies never separating, rulers indicating acres of fields, and vases for peace and wealth. Before the meeting party's arrival, the bride would be helped by a respectable old woman to tie up her hair with colorful cotton threads. She would wear a red skirt as Chinese believed red foreshadowed delight. When the party arrived, the bride, covered by a red head-kerchief, must cry with her mother to show her reluctance to leave home. She would be led or carried by her elder brother to the sedan. In the meeting party the groom would meet a series of difficulties intentionally set in his path. Only after coping with these could he pass to see his wife-to-be. 10 Bizarre Marriage Rituals You Won't Believe Actually Exist
A wedding is a time for celebration and excitement. You will not feel so excited if you were in one of these places! Click Here To Subscribe http://bit.ly/29VUfN1 For copyright matters please contact us at: [email protected] 10- The Blackening of the Bride Blackening of the bride is a Scottish custom which is performed weeks or days prior to the wedding ceremony. The bride and the groom are captured by their family and friends and are covered by food and other adhesive materials. The children and adults alike spray the couple with water guns, buckets of sticky materials and food items while they are being paraded in the streets or on a truck. It is an open ritual and no rules apply to the blackening of the bride. 9- Spitting on the Bride - Massai Nation, Kenya It is one of the bizarre rituals performed by the Massai nation of Kenya. In this ritual, the bride is first shaved and then her head is covered in lamb fat. The father of the bride spits on the head and the breasts. In Massai nation, spitting is thought to bring good fortune. 8- The Kissing Tradition - Sweden This is a bizarre yet an enjoyable tradition in Swiss weddings. During the wedding ceremony, the groom disappears for some reason, and all the unmarried young men are allowed to kiss the bride. At the same time, the female guests also leave the room and they kiss the groom. If you plan to get married in Sweden, then buckle up for this crazy ritual. 7- Beating the Groom's Feet - South Korea This ritual is unique to South Korea. After the wedding ceremony, the groom's friends steal him from the bride. The groom's feet are bound with a stick. It is believed to make the groom stronger before the first wedding night. Though this ritual seems cruel and painful, it is a way of fun and enjoyment. Often times, the friends of the groom ask him questions and quiz him while they are beating his feet. 6- Money Dance - Guests Pay to Dance with the Bride This is a recently adopted ritual. It is practiced all over the world, but it originated in Poland. Those guests who wish to have a dance with the bride have to pay for it. The bride has her first dance with her father while a guest holds an apron in his hand. To dance with the bride, you have to put money in the apron. Female guests also have to pay to dance with the groom. 5- Love conquers all, even bathroom breaks That is what the people of a Tribe in Borneo believe. In this ritual, the married couples are not allowed to leave their homes not even for bathroom breaks for an entire day! It is believed that this ritual will bring the couple good luck in the years to come. 4- Bridesmaid Blockade On the day the groom comes to collect the bride, the bridesmaids make an aggressive blockade before the bride. They do not let the groom cross. To reach the bride, the groom must prove his love for the bride to the bridesmaids. The bridesmaids demand money and they make the groom do silly tasks for their own enjoyment. The groom must obey or he will get into serious trouble. 3- Crying Ritual of the Tujia People - China Among the Tujia people in China, 30 days prior to the wedding the bride starts crying one hour everyday. After ten days, she is joined by her mother in the practice and after another ten days, her grandmother. This continues until all the female guests and relatives of the bride cry for one hour everyday. The good news is that this is not an expression of sorrow. The crying represents deep and true love. People shed tears of joy on weddings but for the Tujia, it is mandatory. 2- The Cursed, Tree Marrying Wives of India Indians take their horoscope seriously. If a female is born "manglik" or Mars-bearing, she is believed to be cursed and will bring an early death to her husband. To break this curse, the bride is first married to a peepal tree or a banana tree! After the wedding ceremony, the tree is destroyed which breaks the curse. Alternately, the bride has to marry the Hindu God Vishnu to break the curse. 1-A Wedding Gone Down the Toilet It is an old French tradition which is still practiced widely in the rural areas. The bride and the groom are forced to drink the leftover alcohol from the ceremony. The worst part is that they are made to do so from a replica toilet bowl! This might be one of the most bizarre wedding rituals around the world. Good news for the French lovebirds, this ritual has lost its charisma and no newlyweds are compelled to practice it any longer. Weddings may be a universal celebration, but traditions vary depending on culture and country. While throwing the bouquet and cutting the cake may seem like a wedding staple in most Western places, other cultures have drastically different ways to go about celebrating the big day. 10 China: shooting the bride In China's Yugur culture, grooms shoot their future brides with a bow and arrow — albeit minus the arrowheads — three times. The groom then breaks the arrows to ensure the couple stay in love forever. 9 Mauritania: fat farms In Mauritania, girls aged between five and 15 are sent to "fat farms" before their wedding to pile on the pounds. If a bride had stomach rolls, stretch marks and overlapping thighs, it signalled her husband was wealthy enough to keep her satisfied. 8 Scotland: blackening of the bride Scottish brides-to-be are taken by surprise by their friends ahead of the big day, and pelted with all sorts of rubbish such as curdled milk, dead fish, spoiled food, tar and feathers. She is then tied to a tree and after taken for a night of drinking. The belief is that if she can withstand this kind of treat 7 China: crying for the groom Brides of the Tujia people in China are required to cry for an hour a day, every day, for the month preceding their wedding. Ten days into this ritual her mother begins to join her, then her grandmother. This is thought to be an expression of joy as the women cry in different tones. 6 Korea: beating the groom's feet Korean tradition dictates that the groom has his feet beaten with fish or a cane before his first night as a married man — to test his true strength and character. 5 India: marrying a tree In parts of India women born as Mangliks (an astrological combination when Mars and Saturn are both under the 7th house), are apparently "cursed" and thought to be likely to cause their husband an early death. In order to counter this, they must first be married to a tree and the tree cut down to break the curse. 4. France: drinking from the toilet Newlyweds in France were forced to drink leftovers from their wedding out of a toilet bowl. Nowadays, chocolate and champagne are used as a substitute, but still served out of a toilet. The idea was to give the bride and groom strength before their wedding night. 3 Sparta: cross dressing In Spartan culture, brides would have to shave their heads and dress up like men. 2. Ireland: feet on the ground In Ireland, the bride's feet must stay on the floor at all times when she and the groom are dancing. This is due to the belief that if they don't, evil fairies will come and sweep her away. 1. Germany: smashing plates Guests to traditional German weddings bring the happy couple any type of porcelain except glass, and then smash them in the belief that this will ward off evil spirits. The couple are then expected to clean up the mess together, learning that married life will not be easy, but by working together, they can overcome any challenge.

African Tribes Traditions & Rituals | Full Documentary
In this region of the Ivory Coast there are still ancient jungles, such as the Tai jungle, and leafy forests which are home to different ethnic branches of the Mande group. The most characteristic of these are the Dan, who are related to the Guere. Their villages are very distant from each other – they do not form a large community, but rather isolated groups, which only come together in exceptional circumstances, to defend themselves against some common threat. masks are real institutions, of the Gueré which order, legislate and codify the social life of the different ethnic groups that live in this region in the west of the Ivory Coast. A great part of the mythology of the Dan is born in the heart of the jungle, in these labyrinthine forests teeming with life, where their deities live, and where nature and magic melt into one. The Dan have always respected and venerated their natural surroundings, as something sacred, as it is the indisputable genesis of their cosmogony. In the interior of this green world, we find the bridges of the spirits. But these are not the work of man. The supernatural beings of the forest themselves build these bridges, to make it easier for the men who live here to move through the forest. Hundreds of lianas, the resistant living limbs of the jungle, are woven together in the dead of night by the spirits. At dawn, a new bridge connects the opposing banks of a river, or crosses a deep ravine. No one knows how or when they are built. But for them they are sacred, because they are made with lianas, and everything that comes from the jungle is revered. That is why they take their shoes off before crossing, as a mark of respect. Apart from the daily chores, the women occupy a very important position in the social structure of the Ubi. As in the majority of the 60 or so different ethnic groups that live in the Ivory Coast, the women form secret societies, which have a decisive influence in the village about sex rituals. In their meetings, which no man may attend, they deal with matters exclusive to the women, though their attention has been centred on just one subject for some time now. In the main cities of the Ivory Coast, associations have been formed to fight to eradicate the barbarous traditional practices, the mutilation of female sex organs. Periodically, women from these associations travel to the most remote villages, to speak with the leaders of the secret societies, and try to convince them to abandon this custom. Every village in the Ivory Coast has an area of the nearby forest where the spirits of their ancestors live. It is the sacred forest of each group, a place which is taboo for strangers. Here, the young men are brought to be initiated, circumcisions are carried out, they speak to the masks of wisdom, and justice is imparted. To the north of the Mande country lies the land of the Senufo, one of the ethnic groups of Africa that has best preserved its own culture. Agriculture is their main activity, though they also have cattle, above all goats and cows. Rice forms an important part of their diet. In these mortars, they separate the grain from the husk. It will then be stored in the granaries, along with the millet and maize. Senufo villages tend to be large compared to those of other groups in the Ivory Coast. They are made up of groupings of different clans and lineages, which form what we would call districts. In each one of them there is a fetish house, where they keep their masks and religious carvings. Women are very important in Senufo society. Their power is comparable to that of the men, though less evident. The system of transmission of culture and tradition is matrilineal, which makes the woman the head of the lineage. Senufo painting is also among the most widely recognised in Africa. Picasso came here, seeking inspiration for cubism, from these artists who expression the visions of the hunters, or the deities of the Poro. They use vegetable paints made using techniques whose origins are lost in the depths of time.

10 Unusual Women Beauty Standards Around The World
Though Western beauty standards may be taking the world by storm, they still aren’t the norm everywhere. There are some cultures that take their beauty standards seriously, and sometimes it can seem a bit brutal! Subscribe to our channel: https://goo.gl/cv6b96 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Description: Though Western beauty standards may be taking the world by storm, they still aren’t the norm everywhere. There are some cultures that take their beauty standards seriously, and sometimes it can seem a bit brutal! From scarification rituals, to putting 20 cm plates in their lips, these are 10 Unusual Women Beauty Standards Around The World! When it comes to beauty standards around the world, most cultures agree that noses are important. But, none of them take it as far as women in Iran, which has now become the nose job capital of the world. Iranian women are born with what they believe are unflattering noses, so when women are old enough they get them fixed. To them wearing their surgical bandages from their nose jobs are like wearing a badge of honour. Women will even fake getting nose jobs and wear fake surgical bandages, all for the sake of being desired. The ancient ritual of scarification in Ethiopia’s Karo tribe seems a bit brutal, but is still practiced today. It is a long painful process that includes women cutting patterns into their faces and chests with sharp objects like glass or knives. Once the wounds are open, the women rub charcoal or gunpowder into the openings, so that the wounds will form keloids once they heal. Over a period of time, women can add more and more scars to themselves. They think of the scars as artwork, and admit that the only reason they still perform scarification is to attract men. The Himba people of northern Namibia slather themselves head to toe in a thick clay called “Otjize.” The “Otjize” is made from ochre, fat, and aromatic resin. When applied to the hair and body, it turns everything into an orange-ish red, which is supposed to symbolize blood. To the Himba people, blood is the essence of life. While this is a beauty standard, it actually serves a second purpose. The “Otjize” also helps protect their skin from the sun and heat! When a girl is becoming a woman in this Southern Ethiopian tribe, they will start the lip stretching or lip plating process. For the women of this tribe it is a very exciting time as it shows she is becoming a woman. Over a period of time she and her family will keep stretching her lip until it is about 8–20 cm in diameter. At that point, the woman will put a plate in her lip, which she takes great pride in decorating. The process is also important, as it is part of wedding rituals in their culture. Most of the time, when people have crooked teeth in Western cultures, they pay thousands of dollars to get them fixed. The exact opposite is true in Japan, where women pay to have their teeth crooked. This beauty standard is known as “Yaeba” which translates into “double tooth” in Japanese. The trend started with Japanese pop stars, but women with crooked teeth have been thought to be alluring in Japan for a while. The whole trend defies normal beauty standards, and celebrates the beauty in having flaws. From the time they are 4-years-old the women of the Kayan tribe in Northern Thailand start putting brass coils around their neck. As the woman ages, she gets more and more coils. Eventually the coils elongate their neck, which is considered beautiful in their culture. Though it seems like they are growing long necks, it’s actually the weight of the coils pushing their shoulders down that gives the illusion of the desirable long necks.
