Correct Sleeve Length For Dress Shirts, Jackets & Suits + 8 Mistakes To Avoid

07:21
See our full-fledged guide here: https://gentl.mn/sleeve-length-guide Get the tie I'm wearing in the vid: https://gentl.mn/2kvOVFW How long should your sleeve be on a regular shirt with french cuffs or double cuffs for cuff links? How about for Barrel cuffs? First, let's talk about the length of a French cuff shirt, it should always end at the root of your thumb. The shirt should have this length no matter whether your arm is hanging or angled. If your shirt gets shorter when you move your arm, that means that the armhole is too big and it simply shortens the shirt when you move. French cuffs form a horseshoe shape. Ideally, this should not be too pinched and tight. It should also not be so wide that you can put on cuff links and then put your shirt on afterwards by sliding your hand through the sleeve out. The button hole on your shirt cuff should be exactly in the middle of the cuff and the button hole should be towards the edge. In Britain sometimes, you find shirts that have the button hole moved towards the front edge of the cuff with the intention to show more of your cuff links underneath your jacket sleeve. In Europe, particularly in Germany or Austria, this is usually a feature reserved for black tie or white tie shirts. If you wear a wristwatch, you should always consider that when you get your cuff size because it has the fit underneath of it. A custom shirt usually accommodates for that. For barrel cuff shirts with buttons, the length rule is exactly the same, should reach the root of the thumb and they should fit tightly against your wrist, again, with enough space for a watch. Now that you know how long a shirt should be, the question is, how much shirt cuff should you show? If you go through history, and if you consult different people, you realize different lengths are considered proper by different people. For example, Allan Flusser suggests you show a half an inch of cuff, shirt cuff that is, underneath your jacket sleeve. On the other hand, Bernhard Roetzel, famous author of the book "The Gentleman" suggests just one cm which is about 2/5 of an inch. To learn more about him, check out our video interview here. If you go back to the 50's, you find guys that suggest just a quarter inch or about 0.6 cm or alternatively, 2 cm which is 4/5 if an inch or almost an entire inch. We, at Gentleman's Gazette, believe that it's a matter of taste and personally, I prefer anything in around half an inch, maybe a little bit more. What's more important than an exact measurement is proportion. Ideally, you want the amount of shirt cuff you show here to correspond to the amount of shirt you show on the back of your neck. So if you have half an inch on the back of your neck, you should show about half an inch on your shirt cuff. It's much easier to adjust the sleeve length of the jacket or a shirt, rather than adjusting it on the neck. If you decide you don't want to show any shirt cuff at all, make sure that the sleeve length is not too long but rather proper and ends right past the little crease in your hand or the root of your thumb. The other problem a lot of men face is having a large shirt cuff fit into a tapered jacket sleeve. That leaves you with a cuff bunching up and it simply looks terrible. if you have a barrel cuff with buttons on your shirt, you definitely want a more tapered jacket sleeve otherwise, it looks disproportionate. Traditionally, button cuffs were a bit more casual so with the more formal double-breasted suit, you would always wear French cuffs or double cuffs with cuff links. Today, you can basically wear anything you want but if you want to adhere to the classic dress code you should always go with barrel cuffs for more casual ensembles and French cuffs for more formal outfits. In my opinion, Prince Charles does a very good job in balancing his shirt cuffs, his sleeves, and his neck. Next time you see a picture of him or see him on TV, pay attention to that. #sleevelength #propersleevelength #notsponsored __________________________________________________________________ Most Popular videos: How to accept a compliment - https://youtu.be/_EKXNmM1PUo 101 things that change when you dress up - https://youtu.be/JyGDd_iYaCI How to tie a Bow Tie - https://youtu.be/2I3cfa0BOOc _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Want to stay updated? How Many Men's Dress Shirts Do You Really Need?

13:29
How many dress shirts should a gentleman really have? https://gentl.mn/how-many-dress-shirts-do-you-need You can shop the accessories in this video here: https://gentl.mn/2BwuXrM #dressshirts #mensshirts #notsponsored So as a general guideline, how many shirts should you invest in when you're starting out and you're interested in a classic wardrobe? I would say ten is the bare minimum. so first of all the basics, I think every man should invest in ten dress shirts if they have somewhat of a use for dress shirts on a regular basis and you can check out which first those are in this video here. If you wear shirts to the office 10 is actually the bare minimum. I suggest having more like a three or four-week rotation which means 15 or 20 dress shirts. Personally, I'm a big fan of pastel-colored shirts, light greens, or lavender, or yellow, but typically that's something you should add on top of the ten basics. If you don't have to wear a dress shirt to work and you don't like wearing dress shirts, I suggest you have at least three dress shirts that you can always rely on. One is a white dress shirt ideally with French cuffs for cufflinks without a chest pocket and it's something that you can wear for anything from a job interview to a funeral to a wedding or any kind of other formal events. If you don't have cufflinks or you don't want to invest money in them, go with a single barrel cuff which is also known as a button cuff. If you want to invest in cufflinks I would suggest you get one pair in gold and one pair in silver in a very traditional style without any diamonds or colored stones. Personally, I would choose a monkey fist knot cufflink because they're versatile, they're classic, and it's something you could wear with any kind of outfit. If you know that you attend black-tie events sometimes it also pays to invest in a tuxedo shirt. The second must-have dress shirt you need even if you hardly ever wear dress shirts is a check shirt. Ideally, you get it with a button-down collar because it's more casual and you don't need to wear it with any form of neckwear and for that, you definitely want to have barrel cuffs or button cuffs and you can also have a chest pocket if you want. The third shirt I think you should invest in is a denim shirt because it can really help to dress down other things, you don't have to iron it, it's something that is popular right now, and has been popular for the last few years. It's soft, it's hard wearing, and it's something that works well in the wardrobe.   On the other hand, if you're a collector, a classic menswear enthusiast or simply a clothes horse, the sky is really the limit. Obviously, that's me and you can have just 10 shirts that are all in white but they can have different cuff styles, different collar styles, different weaves, different front plackets, different buttons, and all those little details make the shirts different and suited for different occasions. Of course, at this point, storage can be a challenge and basically, you can fold them and put them in drawers but I find that it takes up a lot of drawers and so I hang all of my shirts on specific shirt hangers that are not too wide so they don't take up too much space in my wardrobe. Personally, I use the ones from Butler luxury which served me quite well and match my much wider suit hangers. So once you have all the basics covered, I suggest you go with pastel colors. Pastel pink, pastel lavender, green, you can have other shades that are combining those colors and just play with things. One color that's really underrated in men's dress shirts, in my opinion, is a subtle green. You can also add different kinds of patterns such as maybe a small houndstooth shirt or maybe a horizontal striped shirt or maybe stripes in an unusual color such as this one in kind of a light charcoal and yellow. Of course, you can also experiment with different fabrics and different weights as well as finishes and on top of that, playing with a collar shape is probably the detail that has the biggest impact because it defines the V shapes and the triangles that lead to your face. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Want to stay updated? French Cuffs: How, When, & Why to Wear Double Cuffed Shirts

11:50
All about the French Cuff: https://gentl.mn/2RnPQIa SHOP THE VIDEO: Eagle Claw Cufflinks with Carnelian Balls: https://gentl.mn/2HBSHxv Don't miss out on this Guide: Black Tie Dress Code: https://gentl.mn/2G84Fgb Overview of shirt cuff styles: 1. Button cuffs also called barrel cuffs. They've got buttonholes on one side of the cuff and buttons on the other. 2. Link cuffs have holes on both sides of the cuff and as you might imagine are meant to be closed with links as opposed to buttons. Two principal types of link cuffs: 1. Single cuffs which are just one layer of fabric fastened together with a link are standard for the white tie dress code and are also acceptable for black-tie if not necessarily standard at this point in time. 2. Double cuffs are twice as long and are worn folded back upon themselves. They're the standard choice these days for the black tie dress code and are also a staple of business wear. Other kinds of cuffs are convertible cuffs which can be closed with either a button or a link depending on how you'd like to wear them. And finally, you may also sometimes see a buttoned cuff that has excess fabric that can be turned back upon itself. This is known as a turn back cuff, cocktail cuff or sometimes a James Bond cuff. French Cuffs Construction: French cuffs feature a length of fabric that is folded back upon itself and then fastened together with cufflinks. There are holes on both sides of the cuff going through all the layers of fabric. In other words, most French cuffs will typically have four holes in total to a cuff. French cuffs can come in a number of shapes as can other cuff styles. Straight edges are most common for French cuffs but you'll also see rounded edges, angled edges or mitered edges. Why are they called French cuffs? Since at least the 16th century upper-class individuals used elegant ribbons to prevent the ruffled ends of their shirt sleeves from coming open. This practice of adorning the wrists with some sort of decoration continued throughout the centuries. And by the early 19th century, when the modern style of shirt was coming into its own, the ruffles had been replaced with cuffs that were secured with links. One apocryphal story also claims that French cuffs got their start when Napoleon ordered extra long sleeves for the shirts of the soldiers in his armies so that they could wipe their noses on the ends of their sleeve and then fold their cuffs back. There isn't any historical evidence to support this theory however so it's really just more of a fun story. Whatever the case the term French cuff didn't really come into popular usage until the style immigrated to America. In other words, it may just be that calling it a French cuff made it sound a little bit more exotic and special to American consumers. And from then on the term stuck and it's the one that's most commonly used today. Guidelines for wearing French cuffs on shirts The traditional view on this subject is that French cuffs should really only be worn in more formal scenarios. As standards of everyday dress have become more relaxed over the last half century and within the last 10 to 15 years, we've seen a resurgence in an interest in menswear. Some of these old style rules are able to be more freely bent now. Tips: 1. It's always a good idea to show at least a little bit of cuff at the end of whatever you're wearing. 2. French cuffs are usually worn in the so called kissing style with the inside portions of both sides of the cuff together, they can also be configured more similarly to a barrel style. 3. There are a wide variety of different kinds of cufflinks to go with your French cuff shirts to suit the occasion. You should aim for a balance between your own sense of personal style and the formality of the environment you'll be in. When it's appropriate to wear French cuff shirts? The short and simple answer is almost whenever you want with a few key exceptions. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Want to stay updated? Wouldn't it be even better if that tee shirt looked awesome on you? Absofreakinlutely! In this video men's style, grooming, fitness and lifestyle expert, Aaron Marino of IAmAlphaM, AaronMarino, and Pete & Pedro discusses 5 tee shirt tips to make sure your favorite tee shirt looks terrific. Look Awesome in Your T-Shirt 1. It's all about the fit - the one that looks best on you is strategically fitted, which Alpha describes and demonstrates. The chest, shoulders, and arms are snug. The body is not super tight, but rather it drapes, moves, and flows when you move. Try the smaller size so it's strategically snug in the right places. 2. It's all about the sleeve length - triceps should be exposed. If your sleeves are super high, on the other hand, makes you look like you're trying too hard. 3. The shirt length - there is a zone of acceptability which is mid-crotch. Too short is seeing belt when your shirt is out. 4. Choose dynamite details - go with a collar if it's a crew neck for comfort and being more stylized. If wearing a v-neck, the 'v' should be respectable. As far as fabric, go for light-weight cotton for the shirt to lay better on your body. 5. Work out! Your body is a sexy clothing rack! Everything will look better.

POTW: The Best Affordable Dress Shirts For Men

03:15
One of my favorite companies for ties, tie bars, and pocket squares - that I've been using for way before I had this channel - recently released a line of affordable dress shirts for men and I was... very skeptical, to say the least. How to Tie an Ascot & Cravat 3 Ways + DO's & DON'Ts

06:51
Learn the best way to tie your Ascot & Cravat, what mistakes to avoid and more. http://gentl.mn/ascots-cravats-how-to #ascot #howtotieanascot #notsponsored How to tie an Ascot? Here are three ways that you can do it. 1. TRADITIONAL - pleats up or down, it doesn't matter. It is necessary to have the pleats overlap the knot so the knot will be tighter and look your best all day. The right end needs to be about three to four inches longer than the left one. Second, the right end, the longer end, goes over the left end. What's important here is that the pleated part is actually part of the knot. With the traditional ascot, you may want to unbutton your shirt and then you close it once you have it tucked in and then simply adjust it to your liking. 2. SIMPLE - simple because of a single knot. For this type of knot, it is rather loose so it is likely for it to become looser over the course of the day. 3. MODIFIED FOUR IN HAND- The right end should be about 2 inches longer and follow the steps when tying a regular four in hand. With an ascot, it's more complicated because it is unlined. The advantage of this is that even if it comes loose which is not likely, you can always simply tighten it. The modified four in hand adds more volume in the knot making it pop and flow down nicely. Some of you may have half ascot versions where you have one loop and one wide end. To tie this, the wide end goes through the loop and you pull it tight, adjust it and just bring this end through the back, adjust it and put it in. It's not as full but can be advantageous when it's warm and you want less material on your chest. Things to avoid when wearing an ascot? -Never button your shirt all the way up. -Never unbutton more than two buttons an exposed chest is not attractive. -Avoid cheap silk on your skin or jacquard woven silk because it will pull more threads and it will be more uncomfortable. -For day wear, avoid ascots with interlining because it's stiffer and not very comfortable to wear. -If you sweat a lot, be careful with your shirts because cheap silk have the tendency to bleed off the color and you don't want to ruin your shirts. ======================================= Interested in buying Ascots, look here http://gentl.mn/1V5LLb9 To never miss any of our videos again, sign up here for free: http://gentl.mn/1RYGNMU Want to see more videos? $30 vs $300 Men's Dress Shirt - How To Spot Quality Shirts & Avoid Crap- Gentleman's Gazette

Pattern matching If the pattern is matched on the sleeve and the shoulder on both sides, you know it's a quality shirt because someone paid attention to it. 2. Stitching The higher the stitch density, the higher the quality of the shirt overall. Also, you want to look for consistency of the stitching. The best way to look at the stitching is at the bottom hem where it's round. A quality shirt will always have a single needle stitching which takes a little more time but creates a cleaner look. On the other hand, a low-end shirt will double needle stitching 3. Collar and the cuffs A lower end shirt will typically have a stiff interlining in the collar and it just comes in one level of stiffness. On the other hand, a higher end shirt will either give you an option to go with a softer interlining or something stiffer. 4. Yoke Traditionally, they were split in half because people usually have one shoulder that is usually more sloped than the other and they use that part to correct that. Today, most factory made shirts and even made to measure shirts don't even take that into consideration anymore so all you can look at is the yoke split in the back. if so, it's another step, it's more expensive, it helps to match the pattern on the sleeve and it's basically all it is. 5. Buttons A $30 shirt will likely have plastic buttons and they're sometimes made to look like mother of pearl. The next detail to look at is how the button is actually sewn onto the shirt. 6. Sleeves Most of the time, relatively inexpensive shirts or low-end shirts have huge armholes and that makes them uncomfortable to wear because as soon as you lift your arms, everything moves up and becomes uncomfortable. 7. Buttonholes If you have a machine buttonhole that was first sewn and then cut, you have fraying edges on the inside and it just looks bad. On the other hand, a high-quality machine sewn buttonhole has a very high stitch density and you will not find fraying threads. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Most Popular videos: How to accept a compliment - https://youtu.be/_EKXNmM1PUo 101 things that change when you dress up - https://youtu.be/JyGDd_iYaCI How to tie a Bow Tie - https://youtu.be/2I3cfa0BOOc --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Want to stay updated? How To Iron Shirts Like A Pro - Easy Step-by-Step Dress Shirt Ironing Guide - Gentleman's Gazette

11:24
Secrets on how to iron shirts the proper way! - https://gentl.mn/how-to-iron-dress-shirt If you missed part 1 of our ironing series, click here: https://gentl.mn/2DFQWcf To watch a detailed step by step tutorial on how to iron a shirt, click here: https://youtu.be/X3376o1WWXE SHOP THE VIDEO: 1. RED and BLUE Shadow Stripe OTC Socks - https://gentl.mn/2nbsOrS The dress shirt is the easiest thing to iron in a classic man's wardrobe and it's the easiest one, to begin with when you're just getting into ironing. First of all, lay out all your equipment. At the minimum, you need the ironing board. If you are right-handed, the ironing board tip should face to the left. Now, check the label of your shirt and turn the iron to the proper temperature. Two, make sure everything is clean. Look at the shirts to see if there any recent stains because if you iron them now, the heat will set in the stain and it will be much harder to remove it then if you take action right away. Also, make sure the ironing board cover is clean and there are no stains on the bottom of the ironing sole. Three, add water. You definitely want a steam iron and that requires water. I suggest you go with distilled water because it is not hard water but soft water being it has few minerals such as calcium and magnesium and that can cause your iron to clog up and you'll get a grayish whitish substance onto your shirts that will also cause stains. Five, start with pressing the cuffs and the sleeves. No matter if it's a barrel cuff or a French cuff, I start ironing on the inside of the cuff. Once that's done, I look on the outside and if there's still some wrinkles, I iron again. Always make sure to iron from the outside of the cuff in, otherwise, you'll get little wrinkles by the stitching especially on shirts with a sewn interlining. It can be quite frustrating but practice pays off. Once I'm done with the cuff, it's time to iron the sleeve. If you just have a regular ironing board, I suggest to lay down the sleeve flat because, at this stage, you are ironing two layers at the same time. If you don't do it right, you get wrinkles and it will take you much longer. It truly pays to have a system here. Six, press the collar and the yoke. First of all, you flip up your collar and you remove any collar stays if that's possible, if they're sewn in, just leave them in there. Now I iron from one side to the middle, stop, and I go to the other side and iron again to the middle. Avoid ironing from the inside out or in one motion because it will create wrinkles. Because the collar has so many layers, you may have to go over it once more simply to get the right result. Once you're done with the underside of the collar, flip it open so you're now ironing the outside of the collar. Again, outside to the middle from one side and outside to the middle from the other side. If you have a collar with a sewn interlining, it can be a little more tricky. Try to pull the fabric so it stays flat especially along the stitched seams. Again, use short strokes and not bold long motions. Now some people like to fold the collar back down and iron on top of it so it gets its natural shape. If you want a soft roll collar, especially on top or if you have removable collar stays, I suggest you skip that step. Once your collar is done, it's time for the yoke. Finish the body. First, face the buttons on the board and iron it from the back. That way I can go all the way one nice clean motion make sure there are no wrinkles. Now flip the shirt so the buttons face up. If you have a solid shirt, you can quickly go into the areas in between the buttons. If you have a striped shirt I suggest to simply tap down your iron lift it up move to the next section tap down again and so forth. I do this because otherwise your lines will become wavy and it'll show on the front of the shirt. Simply pull the shirt off the board, put it in the hanger, and button the top button or sometimes the top two buttons if you have a big collar. Now you can just hang in your closet and your shirt is ready to go next time you need it. As I mentioned before, because of all the time it needs to set up it really pays to iron all your shirts at once. #notsponsored #ironingguide #howtoironashirt --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Want to stay updated? 5 Ways To Wear A Grey Suit | Men's Outfit Ideas

03:44
Next to a classic navy suit, a grey suit is just about as versatile as a suit can get. The styling possibilities are more or less endless. In today's video, I show you five ways to wear a "workhorse" grey suit for business, a semi-formal event, casually elegant cocktails, for a date night and casually (as a grown-up). N.B. Before anyone beats me up in the comments about the color of the suit, which I call charcoal grey--yes, charcoal grey can be a bit darker. Medium grey might be a better description of the color of this suit, but there are certainly gradations of charcoal. So how about we call this suit a lighter charcoal grey suit. — FEATURED SUIT BY: ▪ Knot Standard → http://hespk.st/1Mjt0cJ ▪ Our Knot Standard Review → http://hespk.st/1Siix2O — LOOK 1: BUSINESS ▪ Michael Andrews Bespoke Shirt → http://bit.ly/2kpjteS ▪ He Spoke Style Tie → http://bit.ly/2vGhNS9 ▪ Cubitts Glasses → http://bit.ly/2DIiPVf ▪ Rolex Datejust Watch → http://amzn.to/2DVktSy ▪ More Affordable Watch Option → http://bit.ly/2DMnXHN ▪ Allen Edmonds Shoes → http://amzn.to/2FlZUfh — LOOK 2: SEMI-FORMAL ▪ Edward Sexton Shirt → http://bit.ly/2DKnPJ0 ▪ Drake's Tie (similar) → http://bit.ly/2DETxTP ▪ HSS Tiffany Cufflinks → http://bit.ly/2DIShDo ▪ Rolex Datejust Watch → http://amzn.to/2DVktSy ▪ Cole Haan Shoes → http://amzn.to/2GsGsio — LOOK 3: CASUALLY ELEGANT ▪ Uniqlo Turtleneck (similar) → http://bit.ly/2EiGgl4 ▪ Cubitts Glasses → http://bit.ly/2DIiPVf ▪ Cartier Drive Watch→ http://amzn.to/2DQd9YD ▪ Allen Edmonds Loafers →http://amzn.to/2GoCozs — LOOK 4: DATE NIGHT ▪ Calvin Klein Shirt → http://amzn.to/2FpKGWm ▪ Brooks Brothers Pocket Square (similar) → http://amzn.to/2EjmeHd ▪ Cartier Drive Watch → http://amzn.to/2DQd9YD ▪ Cole Haan Shoes → http://amzn.to/2GsGsio — LOOK 5: GROWN-UP CASUAL ▪ Reiss Suede Jacket (similar) → http://amzn.to/2DVN3n2 ▪ Corneliani Turtleneck (similar) → http://bit.ly/2EiGqsG ▪ Carl F. Who needs expensive accessories when there are so many quick and easy ways to take your look from drab to fab within seconds? If you want to look stylish no matter what occasion, all you have to do is follow some simple rules. Here's a short style guide for men’s fashion to help guys look irresistible. Grab a needle and thread! 4:25 Learn to choose proper collars 4:56 Make sure your suit suits you! 5:48 Wear in new shoes 6:44 Keep your graphic T-shirts fresh 7:16 Cuff your pants just above your shoes 7:35 Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ SUMMARY: - If you want to appear taller, try wearing a dark pair of high-tops or boots with some dark-washed denim. Without the stark color contrast, your legs will look a little longer. - Pick an accessory that you don’t see every guy around you wearing. This could be a great watch, an understated necklace, or even some novelty socks. - One thing to remember when shopping is to buy some great dark staple pieces like a dark blue or black pair of jeans, a simple black t-shirt, or a nice-fitting black sweater. There’s something really sleek about wearing dark colors, and it’s hard to look cheap in them. - To wear your jacket in fast, spray it with a little water – or, better yet, wear it outside during a light drizzle. - Whether you’re wearing a t-shirt, polo, or dress shirt, tucking it into your pants or jeans instantly dresses up any outfit. - If you have a shirt that feels a little to snug for your liking whenever you button it all the way up, just take the top button off and sew it back on more toward the edge of the fabric. - If you’re on the shorter side, pick a suit jacket with one button so that you can see more of the top of your shirt underneath. This trick elongates your torso. - Before tossing one of these shirts into the wash, turn it inside out. You can do the same with your jeans to keep their color vibrant for longer. - If you’re wearing tennis shoes with a pair of wider jeans that are a little too long on you, it only seems natural to put your pant legs over the top of the shoe. Ooh, but that’s a bad idea if you wanna look stylish! 6 Men's Style Hacks EVERY Man Should Know | Fashion Hacks for Men

09:21
Follow TMM on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/modestmanstyle/ You already know that style is all about the details. The little things can make or break your entire look, so it's important to get them right. There's such a fine line between effortless and sloppy, isn't there? No one wants to look sloppy. We all want to look sharp but also like we're not trying too hard. Oftentimes this means getting your clothes tailored or buying custom clothing. But there are some lesser known "hacks" that are very easy and very cheap, if not free. You just have to know about them. And today I'm going to teach you my 6 favorite style hacks for men. 01:53 HACK #1: The DIY Shirt Collar Adjustment Ever put on a dress shirt with a collar that's just a little too tight, which is uncomfortable, or just a little too loose, which looks sloppy? Here's the quick DIY fix you can do at hime in just a few minutes - no tailoring or sewing machine required. Mini Sewing Kit: http://geni.us/tJ5lYj 03:10 HACK #2: Fix "Fly Away" Collars You know how when you get a new polo, the collar has a nice crisp shape, and it lays nice and flat on your shirt? But then, a few months later, the collar takes on a life of its own and starts to warp and fly away like it's trying to leave you for another shirt? 04:10 HACK #3: Use the "J. Crew" Sleeve Roll When wearing a button up shirt without a tie or jacket, rolling up your sleeves can be very rugged and masculine. Not to mention, countless surveys have shown that a man's arms are one of the most attractive parts of his body. The best way to achieve the above-the-elbow roll is by using the so-called "J. Crew" roll, which was actually popularized by John F. Kennedy. This happens to be one of the faster ways to roll up your sleeves, so it's a win-win. 05:39 HACK #4: Cuff Your T-Shirt Sleeves If you've ever worn a t-shirt with sleeves that are too long, you know that it can make you feel (and look) like a little kid. The solution is simple and stylish - cuff the sleeves once or twice depending on the length. Ideally, they would stop halfway between your elbow and arm pit. 06:51 HACK #5: Pinroll Your Pants If your pants are too long AND too wide, but you don't have time to get them tailored, you can use a cuffing technique called the pinroll to shorten AND taper them - simultaneously. How to Pinroll Tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDanzC9Nrnw 07:38 HACK #6: Shorten Your Shoelaces Like so many things in the world of clothing and accessories, most shoelaces are one size fits all. So you get a new pair of shoes, lace 'em up and tie a single knot, and you've got these huge bunny ears flopping around with every step you take. It's not a clean look, and it's also a tripping hazard. Heat Shrink Tubing: http://geni.us/BouI Detailed Tutorial: http://mdst.mn/shorten-shoelaces I hope you can use 1 or 2 of these tips to help elevate your style. And if you have any "hacks" or tricks to add to the list, leave them down in the comments. — SHOP THE VIDEO ▪ Shirt → https://fave.co/2sCfKzU (similar) ▪ Polo → https://fave.co/2vbv0TZ (similar) ▪ Watch → http://geni.us/8z3Ijq ▪ Strap → http://geni.us/2CAC9 — MY GEAR ▪ Canon T6i → http://geni.us/4kSX ▪ Laptop → http://fave.co/2hgKaDF ▪ Laptop stand → http://fave.co/2vQwBj3 ▪ Lens #1 (50mm) → http://geni.us/OiE9 ▪ Lens #2 (10-18mm) → http://geni.us/qgGQckE ▪ Lens #3 (24mm) → http://geni.us/x61A ▪ Lav mic → http://geni.us/ZBlvGh ▪ Desk mic → http://geni.us/wCdS7t2 — YOUTUBE MUSIC → https://goo.gl/UhwtMb — STYLE GUIDES ▪ Free E-Books → http://mdst.mn/guide-pack ▪ Premium Guide → http://mdst.mn/tmmsg — FOLLOW ME ▪ Podcast → http://fave.co/2vej94M ▪ Instagram → https://www.instagram.com/modestmanstyle/ ▪ Twitter → https://twitter.com/modestmanstyle ▪ Facebook → https://www.facebook.com/modestmanblog/ ▪ Private Group → https://www.facebook.com/groups/modestmen — Contains affiliate links // Stay stylish!

Big and Tall Clothing Tips & Men's Fashion Advice , Suits & Shirts for Short Chubby Guys

07:28
For more Big Guy Style Advice click here: http://gentl.mn/big-tall-style-tips #styletips #biggentlemen #notsponsored If you wish to check out the accessories I"m wearing, click here: Knit tie: https://gentl.mn/2ltWgdn Carnation Boutonniere: https://gentl.mn/2kSqFPn When you're a portly man, you really have to pay attention to your fit. The problem is, it's very hard for you to find a good suit that fits you. Now when you buy a suit off the rack, you have to bear in mind that what happens when they size it just gets gradually bigger and smaller all over. That means if you get a large suit that fits around your belly, it's also going to be longer and wider in the chest. While you can shorten sleeves, you cannot shorten the length of the jacket because otherwise, everything looks disproportionate and especially the buttoning point gets too low which makes it look like you have short legs and everything looks unfavorable. If you are big and tall, it's relatively easy because there are specialized stores that provide suits for you. If that's the case, you can go off the rack and go to your alterations tailor afterward. If you are not tall but have a bit of a belly, you should really invest in a made to measure program or ideally, bespoke because you'll get much better results. Here are a few key points to pay attention to when you buy a suit: 1. Single-breasted, not a double breasted because that makes you look wider. 2. Skip the belt. With Suspenders, the pants will look more flattering & it will be more comfortable. 3. Pleats because they give you a little more room which not only makes everything look more proportional but it's also more comfortable when you sit. 4. Go with a vest but you have to make sure that the rise of your trousers is high enough so the vest covers the waistband of the pants otherwise, it looks odd. 5. Shoulders. Ideally, you should feel where your shoulder bone is and that's where the shoulder should end or just slightly extend. Again, this is a problem off the rack, also the shoulders get wider then you look like a football player and it makes you look even bigger than you actually are. 6. Avoid having overly tight garments especially on your buttoning point, you don't want to see any X wrinkles because it's a clear indication that the garment is too tight. 7. In terms of lapel width, I suggest you skip the skinny lapel because it just doesn't go with your built. 8. As for ties, you should go for a classic, 9cm, 3 1/2 width because it works better with your physique. 9. Always skip the middle vent because it's more likely to gap on your seat and then looks unfavorable. Go with 2 side vents that give you more room, looks more dapper, and you'll be more comfortable. 10. In terms of colors and patterns, I suggest you start out with solids because you don't want to wear something that is too flashy. 11. For shirts, a classic white or light blue is a perfect place to start. Later on, maybe you add some pink but always make sure to keep it pale and never go with strong colors because it will harmonize well with your darker suits. Customized shirts or made to measure shirts are very affordable and you can find them online starting at 30 bucks. of course, at that price, you really have to make compromises about the fabric quality but since fit is the most important thing, you can start there if you can't afford more and then slowly work your way up. 12. Get a slim, classic collar. Why? because it gives you a slimming effect. On the other hand, a widespread, cutaway collar makes you look bigger than you actually are. Go for something more substantial, bigger that is not too spread. 13. When it comes to tie knots, you should go for something medium sized, maybe a four in hand, oriental with a thicker interlining, or maybe a half Windsor but stay clear of the double Windsor. 14. Shirt Cuffs should fit tightly against your wrist and that you show about a quarter to half an inch of cuff, makes you look very dapper and if you want, you can also go with cuff links. 15. When posing for pictures, stand slightly at an angle because it will have a slimming effect on you. 16. Up your look with accessories such as a nice pocket square, or maybe even a boutonniere. 17. You should invest in a proper pair of Goodyear welted Oxfords or Derbys. __________________________________________________________________ Want to stay updated? OCBD Oxford Cloth Button Down Shirt Guide

Click here for our in-depth OCBD shirt guide: https://gentl.mn/oxford-cloth-button-down-shirt-ocbd To get the accessories in this video: Wool Challis Pocket Square in Navy with White Polka Dots: https://gentl.mn/2l3frcV Ivory Silk-Wool Pocket Square with Hunting Motifs: https://gentl.mn/2lz2lRL Madder Silk Tie in Blue with Buff and Red Paisley: https://gentl.mn/2kfj0IX Oxford shirts are great because they pair well with a summer wardrobe as well as a winter wardrobe. They can be casual, they can be worn with a tie, with a blazer, with a tweed coat, or just on their own without any neckwear. They're also really hard wearing. First of all, it has a soft button down collar which means there's no interlining, it's just the fabric. The collar forms this beautiful S-curve around your tie knot and that's typical for this collar. So, what exactly is oxford cloth? Basically, it's a basket weave meaning, you have multiple strands together that are woven like a canvas, like a plain weave. It is simply one warp and one weft thread and it creates a fine, tightly knitted weave. What other hallmarks does an OCBD have? First, you want a shirt placket that is separate. Second, you want a chest pocket. A chest pocket is part of the casual heritage of the OCBD and you definitely don't want to skip it. Another feature you want to look for are barrel cuffs. Other than that, a traditional American oxford cloth button down shirt is cut very wide, lots of room for movement. Now, while that's true on your body, you want to avoid having armhole that are too big. Traditional oxford cloth button down shirts are cut very long in the front and in the back. In the back, you usually have a box pleat which gives you extra space and range of movement. To understand the background of the OCBD, we have to look at the button down collar. It was originally invented in India and it was meant for polo players to keep their collar down during the exercise. Otherwise, it would flap up in the wind and in player's faces so sometimes, they couldn't see. It was a very practical and functional feature. From India, it made its way to England where it was seen by a member of the Brooks Brothers family and so in 1896, they brought this collar to the US. It was Brooks Brothers who had the idea to combine this style of collar with an oxford fabric. Outside of the US, one of the biggest proponents of the oxford cloth button down of Brooks Brothers was Gianni Agnelli. People wanted to emulate his style as an Italian industrialist so it became an iconic garment, even outside the US. Obviously, the shirt is very versatile.it could be worn casually on its own, could be paired with suits, and sport coats. So for men, who often like simplicity, it was this one garment they could wear with anything. So what are the OCBD dos and don'ts? First of all, do not wear it with formal wear. If you work in an environment where business casual is a dress code, the oxford shirt is the perfect companion. In a traditional white collar environment, the oxford cloth button down shirt even in plain white is a bit too casual, too soft, and I would go with poplin. When it gets warm sometimes, people wear OCBDs with short sleeves however, that's not the proper look. Do wear oxford cloth button down shirts on the weekend, it underlines the casual character, it's a perfect weekend shirt. Do not wear oxford cloth button down shirts to interviews. So what should you look for in the OCBD? As I mentioned, soft-roll collar, oxford fabric that is not too wide with the strands. Also, try to get a 100% cotton because it just feels better in your skin. There are lots of polyblends out there because they last longer but if you can afford it, go with a 100% cotton. Again, skip the cufflinks on the shirt, go with long sleeves, and no short sleeves. Regarding tie knots, you do not have a huge tie gap which calls for a small knot such as the oriental knot. #ocbdshirt #oxfordclothbuttondownshirt #notsponsored --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Most Popular videos: How to accept a compliment - https://youtu.be/_EKXNmM1PUo 101 things that change when you dress up - https://youtu.be/JyGDd_iYaCI How to tie a Bow Tie - https://youtu.be/2I3cfa0BOOc --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Want to stay updated?
