Oracle SQL MERGE Statement

07:52
https://www.databasestar.com/oracle-merge-sql/ In this video, we’ll learn what the Oracle MERGE statement does and how you can use it. What is the MERGE statement? It’s a statement that lets you either insert or update data in a table - all in a single statement! It’s helpful if you’re using an ETL (Extract Transform Load) process when creating or updating a data warehouse. It’s also helpful when loading data into your own database if you’re not creating a data warehouse. It allows you to prevent duplicate data and ensure you have up-to-date data in your table. The syntax looks like this: MERGE INTO table_name USING table_name ON (condition) WHEN MATCHED THEN update_clause DELETE where_clause WHEN NOT MATCHED THEN insert_clause [LOG ERRORS log_errors_clause reject_limit integer | unlimited ] In this video, I also show an Oracle SQL MERGE statement example, so watch the video to find out more. For more information on the MERGE statement and how you can use it in your queries, read the related article here: https://www.databasestar.com/oracle-merge-sql/

Sometimes when adding rows to your database need update-if-exists, insert-if-not-exists logic. Aka an upsert. You could write this as separate update and insert statements. But there is an easier way: Merge! Watch this video for an overview of how merge works. Part 12 Can we join two tables without primary foreign key relation

10:38
Link for all dot net and sql server video tutorial playlists http://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/playlists Link for slides, code samples and text version of the video http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2014/09/part-12-can-we-join-two-tables-without.html Can we join two tables without primary foreign key relation Yes, we can join two tables without primary foreign key relation as long as the column values involved in the join can be converted to one type. ID column in Departments table is not the primary Key and DepartmentId column in Employees table is not the foreign key. But we can still join these tables using ID column from Departments table and DepartmentId column from Employees table, as both the columns involved in the join have same data type i.e int. Select Employees.Name as EmployeeName, Departments.Name as DepartmentName from Employees join Departments on Departments.ID = Employees.DepartmentId The obious next question is, if primary foreign key relation is not mandatory for 2 tables to be joined then what is the use of these keys? Primary key enforces uniqueness of values over one or more columns. Since ID is not a primary key in Departments table, 2 or more departments may end up having same ID value, which makes it impossible to distinguish between them based on the ID column value. Foreign key enforces referential integrity. Without foreign key constraint on DepartmentId column in Employees table, it is possible to insert a row into Employees table with a value for DepartmentId column that does not exist in Departments table. The following insert statement, successfully inserts a new Employee into Employees table whose DepartmentId is 100. But we don't have a department with ID = 100 in Departments table. This means this employee row is an orphan row, and the referential integrity is lost as result Insert into Employees values (8, 'Mary', 'Female', 80000, 100) If we have had a foreign key constraint on DepartmentId column in Employees table, the following insert statement would have failed with the following error. Msg 547, Level 16, State 0, Line 1 The INSERT statement conflicted with the FOREIGN KEY constraint. The conflict occurred in database "Sample", table "dbo.Departments", column 'ID'.

Part 19 Copying data from one table to another table using SqlBulkCopy

09:35
In this video we will discuss copying data from one table to another table. The source and destination tables may be in the same database or in different databases and these database can be on the same sql server or in different servers. In Part 18 we discussed, loading xml data into sql server table using sqlbulkcopy. We will be continuing with the example we worked with in Part 18. Step 1 : Create a new database. Name it SourceDB. Execute the following sql script to create Departments and Employees tables, and to populate with data. Create table Departments ( ID int primary key identity, Name nvarchar(50), Location nvarchar(50) ) GO Create table Employees ( ID int primary key identity, Name nvarchar(50), Gender nvarchar(50), DepartmentId int foreign key references Departments(Id) ) GO Insert into Departments values ('IT', 'New York') Insert into Departments values ('HR', 'London') Insert into Departments values ('Payroll', 'Muumbai') GO Insert into Employees values ('Mark', 'Male', 1) Insert into Employees values ('John', 'Male', 1) Insert into Employees values ('Mary', 'Female', 2) Insert into Employees values ('Steve', 'Male', 2) Insert into Employees values ('Ben', 'Male', 3) GO Step 2 : Create another new database. Name it DestinationDB. Execute the sql script to just create Departments and Employees tables. Here we have just the structre of the tables and no data. We will be moving data from SourceDB tables to DestinationDB tables. Step 3 : Include the following 2 connection strings for the Source and Destination databases in the web.config file of the Demo project we created in Part 18. [connectionStrings] [add name="SourceCS" connectionString="server=.;database=SourceDB;Integrated Security=True" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" /] [add name="DestinationCS" connectionString="server=.;database=DestinationDB;Integrated Security=True" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" /] [/connectionStrings] Step 4 : Copy and paste the following code in the button click event handler method in the code-behind file string sourceCS = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["SourceCS"].ConnectionString; string destinationCS = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["DestinationCS"].ConnectionString; using (SqlConnection sourceCon = new SqlConnection(sourceCS)) { SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand("Select * from Departments", sourceCon); sourceCon.Open(); using (SqlDataReader rdr = cmd.ExecuteReader()) { using (SqlConnection destinationCon = new SqlConnection(destinationCS)) { using (SqlBulkCopy bc = new SqlBulkCopy(destinationCon)) { bc.DestinationTableName = "Departments"; destinationCon.Open(); bc.WriteToServer(rdr); } } } cmd = new SqlCommand("Select * from Employees", sourceCon); using (SqlDataReader rdr = cmd.ExecuteReader()) { using (SqlConnection destinationCon = new SqlConnection(destinationCS)) { using (SqlBulkCopy bc = new SqlBulkCopy(destinationCon)) { bc.DestinationTableName = "Employees"; destinationCon.Open(); bc.WriteToServer(rdr); } } } } Note: Please make sure to include the following using declarations using System; using System.Configuration; using System.Data; using System.Data.SqlClient; As the column names in the source and destination tables are the same column mappings are not required. Laura Ipsen & Steve Krause, Oracle - Oracle OpenWorld - #oow16 - #theCUBE

17:51
Too many cooks: Making the Big Data marketing soup consumable to enterprises | #OOW by R. Danes | Sep 20, 2016 Digitization is changing the role of marketers in enterprises. Big Data and predictive analytics are creating osmosis between marketing and technology departments. IT teams are realizing that marketers can bring invaluable customer data to the table; likewise, marketers are injecting cutting-edge tech into their day-to-day work to hone customer relationships to unprecedented levels. As these departments talk to each other more and more, some companies want to go the whole hog and merge them into one. Laura Ipsen, SVP and GM of Oracle Marketing Cloud, and Steve Krause, group VP of Product Management, Oracle Marketing Cloud, spoke to John Furrier (@furrier) and Peter Burris (@plburris), cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, during Oracle OpenWorld 2016 about these issues and more. Krause talked about how old lines between marketing and the rest of the enterprise are blurring. “That distinction is starting to fall away in the sense that marketing more and more is about being able to deliver the right customer experience based on that customers context, their intentions, their past data record,” he said. He stated that smart companies realize those aren’t just the objectives of marketers, but of the business as a whole. “It turns out that why would anybody want that to stop at the organizational boundary called marketing? It doesn’t make sense,” he said. Marketing merger According to Ipsen, “Data’s not just part of marketing, it’s driving the future of modern marketing.” She said that as Big Data and marketing increasingly merge into one conversation, they too will merge within the same technology solutions. “Looking at the architecture of our OMC [Oracle Marketing Cloud] stack, it’s really exciting to see how marketers can use these new tools beyond the transaction, but to deliver a new model of engagement with customers for the whole customer life cycle,” she stated. Data drops in a bucket Krause said OMC’s objective is to pull from all areas of the organization with the end goal of improving marketing. “Everybody’s got their own little piece of the customer — how do we go and connect those together?” he asked. RELATED: Enterprise adopts Hadoop for next-gen performance | #HS16SJ He went on to say that having an overseer is important to companies with little time to sift through a million vendors and their promises. “They’re saying, ‘Let’s have someone at the center who I can hold responsible, and then everyone else — talk to them.’ “

What is Autonomous transaction in Oracle

05:05
What is Autonomous transaction in Oracle. This is very frequently asking question in Interview. Hello Friend, in this Video You can learn how we can give the answer of Autonomous Transactions. An autonomous transaction is available from Oracle 8i. It is a very cool, useful, unique and powerful feature in oracle. An autonomous transaction is an independent transaction that is initiated by another transaction. It must contain at least one Structured Query Language (SQL) statement. When an autonomous transaction is called, the original transaction (calling transaction) is temporarily suspended. The autonomous transaction must commit or roll back before it returns control to the calling transaction. Once changes have been made by an autonomous transaction, those changes are visible to other transactions in the database. Autonomous transactions can be nested. For use Autonomous Transactions feature in program we have to use PRAGMA AUTONOMOUS_TRANSACTION Key word in Program When to use Autonomous Transactions? • Logging mechanism you need to log an error to your database log table. On the other hand, you need to roll back your core transaction because of the error. And you don't want to roll back over other log entries. • Commits and rollbacks in your database triggers If you define a trigger as an autonomous transaction, then you can commit and/or roll back in that code. • Software usage meter You want to keep track of how often a program is called during an application session. This information is not dependent on, and cannot affect, the transaction being processed in the application. Mutation Error Using autonomous transaction we can avoid mutation error. How Does the Phyiscal Location of Rows Affect Indexes?: Finding All the Red Sweets Part 2

09:25
In part one of the red candy series, Chris compared the efficiency of using a index range scan and full table scan to access data. He found that a full table scan was more efficient when fetching more rows than there are table blocks. This analysis made a big assumption however. It worked on the presumption that there was no correlation between the order of candies in the document and which the bags they were in. In this episode tests this assumption. Chris looks at how the physical order of rows in a table can affect the efficiency of indexes on it. He discusses how Oracle tracks this via the clustering factor. ============================ The Magic of SQL with Chris Saxon Copyright © 2015 Oracle and/or its affiliates.
