According to a directive issued by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), mobile users now need to register their cellular devices with the authority before October 20 to avoid blockage.
The regulatory authority has launched a verification system called 'Device Identification, Registration and Blocking System' (DIRBS). The system is aimed at ensuring a healthy growth of mobile device ecosystem in Pakistan and it will ensure use of legal devices on the mobile networks.
The import, use, and growth of legal devices will enhance government revenues, improve the quality of mobile service to consumers, preserve network resources of the mobile operators, provide better security and ensure the protection of intellectual property rights.
The PTA had earlier sent notifications to all mobile users asking them to register their smartphones and GSM devices before October 20. It is now mandatory for every user to get the device checked even if he/she has not received the message.
How to get IMEI no:
Every phone has its own unique IMEI no which can be retrieved through following steps:
By dialing *#06# on your mobile
It is also printed on box and device
The IMEI information is also available in the 'About phone' section of smartphones 'Settings' tab.
The unique code is also printed inside the battery compartment which can be seen after removing back cover and battery.
How to register:
There are three ways a user can register the device.
Via SMS by sending the IMEI number to 8484
Through PTA website
or via mobile app specially developed by PTA for DIRBS system
When a message is sent to 8484, you will receive the following replies:
IMEI is compliant
Device IMEI is Valid. Insert SIM and make a call/SMS to anyone on or before 20/10/18 date for auto registration
Device IMEI is non-compliant. Please insert all your SIMs in this device and use them before 20/10/18 date to continue using this device
Device IMEI is blocked. Reported stolen.
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is sending SMS to all mobile users to confirm their smartphones and GSM devices before October 20, 2018.
If anyone does not receive SMS, he can still verify himself of his GSM devices.
According to PTA, only confirmed mobile phones and GSM devices will be active after October 20 and all other mobile phones will be blocked.
PTA has strongly said that buy and use only approved mobile phones and GSM devices.
There are three ways to verify mobile phones and GSM devices.
Through the application
Through the website
To confirm via SMS, enter your mobile IMEI number in the message to SMS and 8484 SMS.
Dial * # 06 # from your mobile to check your IMEI number.
To download through mobile application, download and install the app from the Google Play Store link. Enter your IMEI number in the search box of the application and press the submit button. Checking it will tell you whether your mobile is confirmed by PTA or not.

3 types of revenues will be arranged by SMS or mobile application. The following descriptions are below.
1- IMEI compliant
Your mobile is registered and verified with the PTA and GSMA network.
2- Valid IMEI
Your mobile IMEI code is verified with GSMA but is not verified by PTA. Contact PTA to register the mobile.
3- Invalid IMEI
Your mobile is not registered and approved with both GSMA and PTA.
If the first realization comes after confirmation. If the IMEI compliant comes, it means your mobile phone is verified with PTA and it will not be blocked after October 20.
If the Risks Valid Valid IMEI, you will have to register with your mobile PTA or it will be blocked.
If the Risks invalid IMEI comes, it means that you are using fake / compressed mobile. This mobile can not be verified. This mobile will be blocked after October 20.
