RDBMS to Kafka: Stories from the Message Bus Stop

47:55
Stewart Bryson, Owner and Co-founder, Red Pill Analytics Bjoern Rost, Principal Consultant, The Pythian Group Inc. Apache Kafka is a massively scalable message queue that is being used at more and more places to connect more and more data sources. This presentation introduces Kafka from the perspective of a mere mortal DBA and shares the experience of (and challenges with) getting events from the database to Kafka and back, using various solutions and connectors. Demos show how to get started with Kafka, set up the kafka-connect-jdbc producer, poor man’s change data capture with flashback query, and replication technologies to turn database logs into Kafka events.

USENIX Security '18 - Return Of Bleichenbacher’s Oracle Threat (ROBOT)

24:13
Hanno Böck, unaffiliated Abstract: In 1998 Bleichenbacher presented an adaptive chosen-ciphertext attack on the RSA PKCS~#1~v1.5 padding scheme. The attack exploits the availability of a server which responds with different messages based on the ciphertext validity. This server is used as an oracle and allows the attacker to decrypt RSA ciphertexts. Given the importance of this attack, countermeasures were defined in TLS and other cryptographic standards using RSA PKCS~#1~v1.5. We perform the first large-scale evaluation of Bleichenbacher's RSA vulnerability. We show that this vulnerability is still very prevalent in the Internet and affected almost a third of the top 100 domains in the Alexa Top 1 Million list, including Facebook and Paypal. We identified vulnerable products from nine different vendors and open source projects, among them F5, Citrix, Radware, Palo Alto Networks, IBM, and Cisco. These implementations provide novel side-channels for constructing Bleichenbacher oracles: TCP resets, TCP timeouts, or duplicated alert messages. In order to prove the importance of this attack, we have demonstrated practical exploitation by signing a message with the private key of \texttt{facebook.com}'s HTTPS certificate. Finally, we discuss countermeasures against Bleichenbacher attacks in TLS and recommend to deprecate the RSA encryption key exchange in TLS and the RSA PKCS~#1~v1.5 standard. So, in this webinar I'm going to focus on the idle wait event, SQL*Net message from client. I'll show you what this wait event is, why it's important and not important, and how to use it to our advantage in both a time-based analysis and an ASH based analysis. Building a Real-Time Streaming Platform with Oracle, Apache Kafka, and KSQL

41:35
One of the main use-cases for Apache Kafka is the building of reliable and flexible data pipelines. Part of Apache Kafka, Kafka Connect enables the integration of data from multiple sources, including Oracle, Hadoop, S3 and Elasticsearch. Building on Kafka's Streams API, KSQL from Confluent enables stream processing and data Transformations using a SQL-like language. This presentation will briefly recap the purpose of Kafka, and then dive into Kafka Connect with practical examples of data pipelines that can be built with it. We'll explore two options for data transformation and processing: Pluggable Single-Message Transformations and the newly-announced KSQL for powerful query-based stream processing. GWEN SHAPIRA Solutions Architect Confluent Gwen is a principal data architect at Confluent helping customers achieve success with their Apache Kafka implementation. She has 15 years of experience working with code and customers to build scalable data architectures, integrating relational and big data technologies. She currently specializes in building real-time reliable data processing pipelines using Apache Kafka. Gwen is an author of “Kafka - the Definitive Guide”, "Hadoop Application Architectures", and a frequent presenter at industry conferences. Gwen is also a committer on the Apache Kafka and Apache Sqoop projects. WebLogic Advanced JMS: Unit-of-Order

09:35
Sr. Principal Product Manager for App Grid, Jeff West, discusses an advanced feature in WebLogic for JMS called Unit Of Order and provides a demo of UOO in action. Message Unit-of-Order is a WebLogic Server value-added feature that enables a stand-alone message producer, or a group of producers acting as one, to group messages into a single unit with respect to the processing order. This single unit is called a Unit-of-Order and requires that all messages from that unit be processed sequentially in the order they were created. To see how to set up the project and check out the code, check out this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-LRKasiAlpA For more information about Unit of Order, please see the online WebLogic documentation here: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12840_01/wls/docs103/jms/uoo.html

How Can Solace Improve Oracle GoldenGate

13:23
Enhance your Oracle GoldenGate architecture by integrating with Solace message routers to enable real-time data distribution to applications. Additionally, enable enterprise applications to use the enterprise message bus to persist information to the database, instead of directly performing database updates, decoupling these applications from the database updates and unlocking higher performance. And finally, put these together to simplify and accelerate existing distributed GoldenGate installations.

Highly Available JMS with WebLogic: Store and Forward

13:44
Sr Principal Product Manager Jeff West discusses WebLogic JMS Store and Forward and shows a live demo. The SAF service enables WebLogic Server to deliver messages reliably between applications that are distributed across WebLogic Server instances. For example, with the SAF service, an application that runs on or connects to a local WebLogic Server instance can reliably send messages to an endpoint that resides on a remote server. If the destination is not available at the moment the messages are sent, either because of network problems or system failures, then the messages are saved on a local server instance, and are forwarded to the remote endpoint once it becomes available To download the code and see how to set up the project, check out this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-LRKasiAlpA For more information on configuring and managing Store and Forward, please check out the WebLogic documentation here: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12840_01/wls/docs103/saf_admin/index.html

WebLogic Advanced JMS: Unit of Work

10:44
Sr. Principal Product Manager for App Grid, Jeff West, discusses an advanced feature in WebLogic for JMS called Unit Of Work and provides a demo of UOW in action. Many applications need an even more restricted notion of a group than provided by the Message Unit-of-Order (UOO) feature. If this is the case for your applications, WebLogic JMS provides the Unit-of-Work (UOW) Message Groups, which allows applications to send JMS messages, identifying some of them as a group and allowing a JMS consumer to process them as such. For example, an JMS producer can designate a set of messages that need to be delivered to a single client without interruption, so that the messages can be processed as a unit. Further, the client will not be blocked waiting for the completion of one unit when there is another unit that is already complete. To see how to set up the project and check out the code, check out this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-LRKasiAlpA For more information about Unit of Work please see the online WebLogic documentation here: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12840_01/wls/docs103/jms/uow.html
