Three modern interpretations of what the ’60s were all about and long before that, really: BMW built its first Boxer (which was its first motorcycle) in 1923. Triumph built its first Speed Twin, the Bonneville’s granddad, in 1938. And Honda’s first CB750 of 1969 laid down the pattern for so many more thousands of Japanese bikes to come. Naturally, we rode the pee out of them because that’s just what we do (and all three work surprisingly well if you’re easily surprised), but most of us can agree that these three are way more than just three very cool motorcycles; they’re history on wheels. I love the look of vintage style motorcycles, but I don't have the $$ to buy one. In this video, I'll show you how I took a basic dirt bike and converted it into a sleek off-road tracker. This can be done by anyone with a little metal working skill and a vision of what they want. Which is the best retro motorcycle on the market? What do you think of the Yamaha ZSR700, the Ducati Scrambler, the Triumph Bonneville Street Twin and the Guzzi V7 and do you agree with our verdict? Tell us in the comments below. We're looking for the most stylish, powerful, and most affordable retro bike there is, so we've compared all the top models on price, engine, power, torque, weight, frame, suspension, brakes, tyres, fuel capacity, fuel economy, and colours! We’ve got a Yamaha XSR700, which is really the two-year-old MT-07, known for its low weight and easy wheelies. There’s a Ducati Scrambler, a modern interpretation of a much smaller single-cylinder range from the ‘60s and ‘70s. We’ve gone for the Full Throttle variant, with black paint and Termignoni silencers. We’ve got the newly launched Triumph Street Twin, the entry-level member of a new Bonneville family, which also includes the T120 and Thruxton R. No one’s going to mistake it for a 1959 Bonnie but it’s certainly close enough to recognise as a new one. And we have a Moto Guzzi V7 II Special, which actually does look a lot like the 1971 V7 Sport from which it derives. Cafe Racers Riding at Phan Thiet, Vietnam Vintage Style Cafe Racer This is a tour from Saigon to Phan Thiet of cafe racers club So what is cafe race ? The café racer is a light and lightly powered motorcycle that has been modified for speed and handling rather than comfort. The bodywork and control layout of a café racer typically mimicked the style of a contemporary Grand Prix roadracer, featuring an elongated fuel tank, often with dents to allow the rider's knees to grip the tank, low slung racing handlebars, and a single-person, elongated, humped seat Café racer styling evolved throughout the time of their popularity. By the mid-1970s, Japanese bikes had overtaken British bikes in the marketplace, and the look of real Grand Prix racing bikes had changed. The hand-made, frequently unpainted aluminium racing fuel tanks of the 1960s had evolved into square, narrow, fibreglass tanks. Increasingly, three-cylinder Kawasakis and four-cylinder Hondas were the basis for café racer conversions. By 1977, a number of manufacturers had taken notice of the café racer boom and were producing factory café racers, most notably the Harley-Davidson XLCR Classic café racer style has made a comeback recently, thanks largely to the increased interest in vintage motorcycles in general. Baby boomers were responsible for a surge in motorcycle sales in the late 1960s and 1970s. Modern cafe racer conversions generally focus on the aesthetic aspect of the motorcycle rather than pure performance. They are generally based on small capacity air-cooled single or twin cylinder Japanese bikes, with the Yamaha SR400 being the most popular model due to it's classic styling reminiscent of 1970s motorcycles

Once in a while, you may be lucky enough to find a hidden gem while walking along the street. This happened for Jon on his commute when someone was giving away a vintage bike. In this tutorial, Jon shows you how to restore a bike you found in the trash! Subscribe: http://gcntech.co/subscribetogcntech The GCN Shop: http://gcntech.co/ap GCN Tech Uploader: http://gcntech.co/upload What to check: Frame Inspection First up we need to inspect the frame to make sure that it’s not out of shape, as if it is, it’s probably quite likely you will want to put it back in the trash unless it’s an old Colnago Master Olympic or something as fancy. Components Check out the rest of the components too. So the wheels, give them a spin to make sure they are running smooth and true, anything that is really rough or buckled, is going to require some attention. As well as checking for any broken spokes or worn rims, check rim wear with a flat edge. Don’t forget the tyres too. The bottom bracket and headset. These are two areas known to be a bit problematic. So hold the cranks and try and rock them laterally, so side to side, check for any movement there. And with your headset, give the front brake a hold and try and rock the bike from front to back, seeing if there is any movement or knocking. What would you check on a bike you found? Let us know below. 👇 If you enjoyed this video, make sure to give it a thumbs up and share it with your friends. 👍 If you'd like to contribute captions and video info in your language, here's the link - http://gcntech.co/ao Watch more on GCN Tech...
