This is one of those "fun facts" that sounds made-up. After looking it up, I'm glad to discover that it's actually real; just like the thing about Bluetooth being named after King Harald "Bluetooth" Gormsson, and its logo being a bind rune of his initials. I thought that sounded completely frigging made-up, but it's true.
That is true for the Russian series of Rocket launchers...like the RPG-2 and RPG-7. For fictional rocket launcher used in half-life 2, the term "rocket propelled grenade" is applicable to an extend imho. This one is based on an AT4, so even LAW (Light Antitank Weapon) can be a good term to describe it. Although, it's actually none of those. This is a guided missile launcher. These aren't rockets, these are missiles. This works more like a Kornet or TOW, or atleast a Javelin.
Fun fact: The Combine gunships shooting down your rockets wasn't intentionally coded in. They coded the gunships to attack the most dangerous thing they can see — which was supposed to be you, the player. But technically the biggest danger was not the player themselves, but the rockets they were shooting; so they attacked the rockets. The devs noticed this behaviour and left it in to increase the challenge.
Man, you're really one of those few that make "real Walkthroughs," so far only you and "Major Slack" make what I call "walkthroughs for mere mortals." It's getting harder and harder to find people like you, thanks for the guides, I know how much work goes behind these.
Bigmacdavis, if you ever want another game to do a walkthrough on in the future, just try Hellebarde if you haven't already. It is a 32-map megawad that you get from the same website that you get scythe from And I will just say the TNT Evilution's Map-27 mount pain and the second half of scythe are like walking through the park to go have a picnic on a sunny day compared to what Hellebarde can and will do to you without any mercy, hesitation, or remorse.
After hl2 and relative games (episode 1-2) are finish , i would like to see bigmacdavish skyrim walkthrough not even need to be %100.. just imagine that it will be awesome to witness how he gonna play the rpg game like skyrim.
Despite having completed hl2 many many times before, I never knew there was an alternative fire for the scout car! Thanks for reaching me something new about a game that I thought I knew everything about!
In half life 2 episode 2 the hardiest achievement is the one you kill all the little glowing bug I
Like to see you try or at least get it a shot
P.S combine in half life 2 episode 2 are more likely to hit u in long range
Dear Bigmacdavis. First of all, I really appreciate what you do and was totally happy when you returned. I believe I watched all your videos and love your desire to reveal every smallest detail of the game. I find this approach fascinating. So I wanted to share a small discovery made by my 11-years old son trying to playthrough map5 of Plutonia experiment. In the very beginning of this map as you remember you face two chaingunners on both sides of the bridge through damaging water. So what my son found out trying to play it from pistol start is you actually can grab those chainguns and come back to the bridge, and what is the most amazing is from certain angle you don't even need a strafe run. No doubts you won't need it in non-pistol start walkthrough, but these 20 bullets might be helpful for a pistol start attempt. Thank you again! Take care and please don't disappear again
Very nice and very informative, i was really wondering those things about the antlions and the ocean because i also like to kill everything in games and dick around in areas you are not supposed to go :)
I did. Two years ago. But it turned out I had inherited an old graphics computer and the newest possible graphics card it would recognize was an NVIDIA Quadro 600. Suckish card. I have raised funds for a new PC, so probably within a month, I'll have a better PC capable of recording in 1080p and 60 FPS.
Hey BMD I really like your vids you're the best my friend I'm looking forward to seeing you at the top of the hill making more walkthroughs with better gear my support is continuos and you can call me buddy
Fun fact: the Combine gunship isn't a vehicle but is an alien creature with mechanical parts called a synth. Synths are basically aliens that have been either forcefully evolved or modified by the Combine for use in their military. Striders, hunters, dropships and claw scanners are also synths. They all share similar, insect-like features and armored exoskeletons except for hunters.
HL marked my entire game preferences as a kid. I didn't enjoy a game series that much until I got into S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
It would be great to see a Shadow Of Chernobyl walkthrough on your channel, hope it happens one day. Keep it up man!
Great that you're adding this introduction. Walkthrough felt a little bit rushed. Under 1 ½ hours, I knew something was wrong. (LOL, not entirely serious here, it was great and I enjoyed it a lot!) But I missed "uhhh ahhh" moments at the bridge! :D Also the backstory about the cannon on the car and that Eli build it. So it's nice to have this included here. If you allow a few additional OCD observations about gunships strategy and especially how the achievements work on Steam:
With the car you can also hit combine soldiers and kill them.
And when you're fighting a gunship it's a good strategy to take immediately cover after a rocked hit or missed, and then as fast as possible shoot up the next rocket in the sky. Because: The gunship will primarily focus on shooting at your rocket. So it won't shoot (that much) at you. Immediately after your rocket hit or missed it will focus shooting at you 100%.
About the achievements: On the XBox these achievements can be achieved in any HL2 game/episode:http://combineoverwiki.net/wiki/The_Orange_Box_Achievements#Any_Half-Life_2_game However...
...On Steam they are seperated, it doesn't matter if you bought the Orange Box on Steam or the single games. On Steam it will always behave like this. A few Xbox achievements got into HL2, a few into EP1 (e.g. conservatitionist - kill x enemies with the same energy bal), a few other into EP2.
Here are the listings on how the achievements behave on (any of) the Steam versions:
*** SPOILER WARNING***, obviously, lists from steamdb include "hidden" achievements. ***SPOILERS***
HL2: https://steamcommunity.com/stats/HL2/achievements | https://steamdb.info/app/220/stats/
HL2 EP1: https://steamcommunity.com/stats/HL2:EP1/achievements | https://steamdb.info/app/380/stats/
HL2 EP2: https://steamcommunity.com/stats/HL2:EP2/achievements | https://steamdb.info/app/420/stats/
That's exactly how the achievements will work/unlock on Steam, no matter if you have the Orange Box license, or individual licenses for the games.
I completely forgot about the secondary fire of the mounted gun. To be fair, I don't think there's anything in the game to really use it on - whenever you fight enemies from the car, it's easier to use the primary fire.
Kinda forgot to mention in the last video, the walkthrough, I've found that the laser pointing mechanics of the RPG in HL2 is much more well-ordered compared to the ones from thr original HL and even Black Mesa. When doing a corkscrew - it just goes persistently, even mostly without losing connection with the shooter in every angle(waving the pointer in the sky). At least for me, it's kinda a lot more satisfying.
Nice video for some special showcases, btw. :b
what about the bridge? u can walk safely on the walkways instead the beams and risk falling
with the rpg u can spin the hand quickly in small spins to get the 'screw ' thing' instead making all the screen go with u like in last walkthourugh
try to do so in the light house or in the nova prospect fights u will see hoe effective it is
unless you using bad mouse, but yea good video and very educational
The bridge, yeah, I wanted to get passed that as fast as possible. Anxiety. Fear of heights. It's literally gripping. I wish I could wish that part of me away, haha. And thanks, I'll remember those strategies.
It's been so long since I played HL2 that I only remember some of the more important details about it - but that car and some general ideas of this chapter is among them! Good luck going forward to the next chapter(s). :)
Half Life 2 has soooo much content... even after playing it for 10 years and being a die-hard fan, you forget some of it, or it is really hard to get every variety Half Life has in your mind. (Bad reprsentation because of my english I know)
It's okay Davis, we know it is hard what you are trying to do for your channel :)
Sometimes, yeah, it can be hard to remember everything. Chapter 7 dumps a whole lot of new things onto you (things I know like second nature) so it's hard to call those things to mind when they're so familiar to you. If that makes any sense.
